I have become my mother (father)
When I was a kid, before my mom went to college and started wearing jeans (when I was 13 or so), she always had a tissue tucked in the wasteband of her pants, just in case (a clean one!). So today, I'm sitting here, with a cold, feeling rotten and realize I have to get the laundry from the basement. Without even thinking about it, I grabbed a tissue and shoved it in the wasteband of my pj pants (just lounging here feeling crummy) and headed for the basement. It dawned on me.. I HAVE BECOME MY MOTHER.
So, has anybody had the realization that they have become just like their parents?? |
I feel like that every day.... I notice in the way that I speak or say certain things.... the way i dress or my attitude about things... i always swore i wouldn't become like her.... and sometimes when i realize that I have, it scares me... but i guess it isn't half bad :)
Everyone always confuses me with her on the phone, our voices are exactly the same and i'm starting to look like her too lol |

Yeah, I've totally transformed into my mother. For years the idea bothered me, but now I rather like it. She's more amazing than I've ever given her credit for. |
Just wait until your kiddos hit adolescence! Then the family-mother/gene really kicks in!
|
Hahaha. It happens to everybody. I suddenly realized that my lower arms and hands look like my mother's when 3/4-length sleeves became popular and I'd look down and whoa! My mother's arms were suddenly there. I also sound like her if I raise my voice to the kids or cough.
Now my face and hair have always been a female version of my father's. |
No way, no day. My only similarity with my mother (aside from half my genes) is our adherence to our careers. She continued to work part-time after I was born (all my friends' mothers were SAHMs), and I intend to continue working full-time even if I have children.

I'm really close with my dad, and even though we're different in a whole lot of ways, I still catch myself using some of the same expressions he uses.

I went to Costco the other day with my mom and stepdad and as he was following us, he laughed because he noticed my mom and I walk the same way -- down to how we clutch our purses with our left hand and how we swing our right arm.
I'm the youngest of a whole ishtload of siblings (thanks Daddy) and as a result, I have even more nieces and nephews to look after. Once I was in charge of my 15 year old niece while her parents were on vacation. She thought she could get away with going through my closet, picking out my "night at the club" clothes -- and then proceeded to catch the bus to the mall, probably to go hunting for boys with her stupid friends. I know what happens at the malls because hi, I used to do it too. When I found out what she did, I grounded her and took away her makeup (she cried) and used the "you may hate me now, but you'll understand when you get older." Just like what mom used to say. It scares me, knowing that I'm 27 years old, no kids yet, and I'm already saying the things mom used to say. Just knowing that I've matured like that is nice, but it makes me :( because it means I've reached "older" status. |
When I say the following:
-Oh for heaven's sake! -Use a coaster! -Move that over, it's sitting on the edge! -Close the drawer before you run into it! What's scary is that most of the time, this is an internal monologue. |

Good God...Its the same situation w/my mom and I. My bf tells me that I had better never fully transform into her. I hate to tell him, but it may be inevitable. |
Everyone says that my mom and I both look and sound just alike. It didn't hit me that I really am becoming my mom until a few weeks ago at dinner. My mom has always eaten her whole meal without drinking anything (just a few sips throughout the meal). After she finishes eating, she then drinks her beverage. I noticed recently that I do that, and I used to make fun of her for doing that all the time. :p

ah, but has anyone actually had their dad mistake them for their wife even though his wife (my mother) was sitting exactly next to him?
My and I are both around five foot one, are pear shaped, and have long blond hair. That's something I can look forward to-nearly halfway through my fifties without any gray sticking out yet. Oh, and all of those early wrinkle lines. I find myself talking to my line sisters like my mother talks to me (make sure you go to grad school NOW because it is much harder if you take a break and go back). I realize how it sounds and I apologize for being so patronizing. It snuck up on me! |
I realized I am becoming my parents when my roommate told him to wake him up at a certain time and I didnt becuase he was sleeping so good. We joke all the time about how when we tell our parents to wake us up they dont and then we get pissed because there was a reason we told them to
|
I'm shaped just like my mom - short and wide.
I walk like my mom - piegeon-toed. I'm loud like my mom. I'm very silly like my mom. I sing and dance around the house like my mom. So, yeah, I've turned into her pretty much. |
I was delighted that my mom and I went to the same church for about 9 months before people actually realized that we were related. Their reaction was usually something like:  "You're her daughter?? But you're nothing alike. You're so laid back and she's so....well...:o ".
