Sorority Song Books

Okay, my Alumnae Panhellenic thinks I'm nuts, but I collect NPC sorority song books. (Just got a 1941 Sigma Kappa Triangle from e-bay!). I've noticed on e-bay that there is a seller who markets pages torn out from old song books - this horrifies me. I love the old song books because they preserve so much history -and the idea of tearing them apart just strikes me as wrong. (Oh - and my collection will go to Gamma Phi Beta International Headquarters when I enter the chapter eternal).
Am I way out of line with my thinking? And is anyone else out there a geek for all the old songs? I swear I got invited to so many weddings because I was the only one who always remembered the serenade song - so if you wanted the song sung at your reception, you had better invite me!

I have a DG songbook from the 1940's that I bought from ebay. It's so interesting seeing the old songs!:)

I came across a Kappa songbook from 1920. I love it! It is so interesting to read all of the old and obscure songs from our past. :)

I have the most recent version of Tri Sigma's songbook "Songs Sigmas Sing". I'm the one who went out of her way as a new member to learn alot of the songs, even the ones my chapter didn't use often. So, yes, I am also that sister who you want to be there when there is a request for an obscure song at a Sigma event.

Last year, our HQ released "Songs Sigmas Sing" on CD! The CD includes EVERY song in the songbook (even the silly ones) and even has cheers recorded by groups of collegians. It's very helpful to be able to hear the song sung in the way it is meant to be, especially since my chapter tended to be a bit off on some of the melodies. I wonder if anyone else's songbook is recorded on CD?

All new members starting in fall of 2006 got a copy of it along with the songbook. I was pretty jealous! So I had my big (who was VP Recruitment) make me a copy just to have.

I bought an old Pi Phi songbook several years ago on eBay. I love it! It was worth fighting to the death on at the end of the auction (this was before you could put your maximum bid in and people sniped a lot). I'd love to buy a CD of classic Pi Phi songs--does anyone know if we have one?

I have an old (1930's) Alpha Delta Pi Songbook, and one of the things it includes is a list of several of the other GLOs' "whistles"! I've got to dig that book out, the next time I'm at my house! One of our chapters made a CD for our 150th anniversary a few years ago - it's really good. But when I was in school, we found two old albums in our storage room from the 1960's - I found one on ebay, and plan to have it made into a CD for the laugh value!

BTW, I did get one of those pages from a songbook, one of our special songs. I had it framed for the local chapter, and it looks gorgeous!

KSUViolet - I love the idea of a cd - and am now dying to get my hands on Tri Sigmas. Hmmm . . . maybe when I visit y'alls headquarters I can get one.
?Wouldn't it be great if Gamma Phi Beta could get Kristen Chenowith to record one for us???
Honeychile, I understand wanting to frame a copy of the song - but couldn't a wonderful copy of the page be made on acid-free paper? I have actually thought about doing it and offering them through e-bay - they would be great for scrapbooking and crafts - and no books would have to be destroyed.

Ours are posted on the Members Only side of the website as MP3's, which is really convenient!

Absolutely! If an antique can be kept intact, by all means, it should be. *hangs head*

1905 Songbook

I own a 1905 Convention songbook for AXiD. It was only 3 years after nationalizing so many of the songs refer only to their double blue. No Gold. And they called themselves Alpha's. It's really cool! The only other I have seen is at Headquarters.

I put a few of the lyrics on the AXiD Forum over a year ago (maybe 2?) if anyone is interested...especially some of the AXiD's.
