Eddie Robinson has died
|
Condolences to Bro. Robinson's family at this time. Coach Robinson was a legendary figure and fraternity man, and contributed to the "better making of men."
May God bless Eddie Robinson. |
I saw it on the news this morning. I'll never forget when he was honored at LSU's Tiger Stadium before a game. He had just retired and was being presented with a life-time achievement award. The crowd was on its feet for the longest time clapping and cheering. He was a class act and will be missed greatly.

I started to post yesterday that he had been hospitalized, but decided against it. I saw reports that he had stabilized last night, with that I was optimistic. Unfortunately, for us, he was called on home. Fortunately, for him, he receives his HIGHEST and GREATEST award.
Now, just waiting word about the services. I plan on attending. :( |
Another great man
I never met him, but I met some of his players who knew him well. The few times they interviewed him on television were more than enough times for his true character to shine through. He is factually the most winningest coach of college football, yet the wider society acknowledges only the coaches from the predominantly white institutions. They know the real deal though. He did more with less, and made much more profound impact on the lives of his players. Manhood and Responsibility was his philosophy; and that's how he lived. May GOD bless his family and the circle of friends whom he touched. |
Services: Scheduled for Wednesday in Grambling. The body is slated to be in the State Capitol in BR on Monday for those who wish to pay their respect.
ETC: day |
So sad to see this good man to go... May he rest in peace.

Farewell, Dear Brother...Your Legacy Lives On...
On the day we remember and reflect the death of Brother Martin Luther King
comes news of another great Alpha icon has passed. Brother Robinson blazed paths that many have yet to understand. He is known for his record number of wins as a coach; let's set aside the wins for now. The impact he has had on he world of sports and the lives that he has forged with his teaching have immeasurable results. We have heard the names that Bro. Robinson sent to the National Football League, but how many more became pillars of their respective communities, leaders of their families, invaluable resources for those who follow in their footsteps? What a compelling story... As Bro. Robinson paved the way for many to 1) recognize glass ceilings and 2) devise methods to over come them... he, like Jackie Robinson and Dr. King, Bro. Robinson was criticized by other African-Americans for not being militant enough... I have my own opinion about this incredible school of thought... but, my plan was to keep it short. Prayers to the Family and the legacy of excellence that this Brother has left... |
He was the type of coach all coaches should look up to. When they made him, they broke the mold
RIP Mr. Robinson :( |
