RUSH
Is it really almost not worth going through rush just because I'm going to be a sophomore next year. I've heard so many different things and am starting to feel really discouraged.
|
Trust me, it will be discussed ad nauseum in your other thread when the SEC Recruitment Goddesses descend upon it.

don't be discouraged. you may need to work a little harder, and you may not have as many choices as you would have as a freshman, but it can be done.
you should have good grades, gotten involved in one or two campus clubs or activities and be lining up your recommendations for each sorority. |
If it is something that you want to do, do it. That way you don’t have to wonder what if.
From the LSU FAQ page: “What about non-freshman potential new members? Sophomores and juniors do go through Recruitment. The upperclassman GPA is usually a 2.5 or above. It is more difficult to receive a bid as an upperclassman because sororities tend to desire women who will be active members for the four full years of college.” That being said, you have got to go in with an open mind. Also realize that although the above says “a 2.5 or better”, your GPA should really be “better.” Work on getting recommendations. Tell your family, friends, former teachers, and anyone else that you can think of that you are going through and they might be willing to write a recommendation for you. Most sororities have mid-July deadlines for receiving recommendations but some are as early as June. Try to get at least one recommendation for each chapter but no more than two. Information Teas have already started but the one in Baton Rouge is April 14 from 10am - Noon at the Country Club of Louisiana. Collegians and alumnae will be able to answer any questions that you may have. There will even be a fashion show to give you ideas. Good luck! |
The young lady I wrote a rec for last fall was rushing as a sophomore. She did extremely well. However, I remember that she knew many girls that were already in sororities...she met most of these girls through her classes. I think this was the key to her successful recruitment.
You'll never know unless you try. Greek life at LSU is great. |
Thanks for your opinions! i def. appreciate it :)

don't be intimidated.
Hey girl! I know it is easy to get intimidated by all the posts about rushing at LSU.
Here is the bottom line: yes, there are tons of girls who rush at LSU. yes, some of them know lots of girls who are in houses, have straight A's and are legacies. BUT there is room for a lot of great girls to join the LSU greek system. The reality is, certain houses take more sophomores than others. Certain sophomores don't have a problem going to their top choice house and some end up not finding a sorority that is right for them (and vise versa). THERE ARE GIRLS WHO FIND A HOUSE AS A SOPHOMORE, and their not rare. Give it a try! Can't hurt. I rushed as a non legacy, non valedictorian, non millionaire and I had a great time. I learned a lot about myself and got a crash course on mingling and meeting new people! I hope to see you on the row this summer! |
