South vs. North?

It's pointless to keep arguing about the South vs the north and which is better

As a Southerner, I'd probably just euthanize myself if I was caught wearing or doing some of the things that go on up in the north, but that's just me. they probably think the same way about our PFGs, costas, cole haans, brooks brothers, and sperrys...

just dont associate with them.

it's what Robert E. Lee and co. did.

What's a PFG?

PGT_uga 03-29-2007 10:33 PM

performance fishing gear

I dont understand why brooks brothers. sperry. etc etc are constantly being touted as styles only being worn in the south.
Maybe not so popular amongst younger college crowd, but its not completely uncommon to see such things on a northern college campus, especially in the New England area.

Hey I grew up right on the MD line, so I can go either way. :D

Are you serious? oh boy.

use the search function.
this north vs. south "what's the most frat-tastic part of the country" thing has already been argued in a million posts on GC.

Why would I know that? I don't fish.

RACooper 03-30-2007 02:08 AM

Sooo... Performance Fishing Gear is that like some special line? or is it just the extraneous gear some folks need/use to fish?

Please note I do fish (in every season) but the only extra "performance" type gear I regularlly use is a depth gauge so as not to hit any rocks or deadheads.

LOL, you consider Brooks Brothers, Cole Haan, and Sperry "Southern Brands"?

Haven't been out much, have you?

Haha, that's exactly what I was going to say. CT and Boston both have two huge Brooks Brothers stores, and you see Cole Haan and Sperry everywhere up here.

Does that mean I'm really a Southerner because a good number of my clothes are Brooks Brothers?

Really. Brooks Brothers was founded in and has always been a New York City-based company; Cole Haan is a Chicago company; PFG is based in Portland, Oregon; Sperrys came from New England; and Lecoste is French, for Pete's sake.

(And back in the day, Freeport, Maine's L.L. Bean would also have appeared on this list. Their duck shoes are still a must in these parts. ;) )

It's a line of Columbia Sportswear: Performance Fishing Gear.

You might want to read up on Robert E. Lee a little more -- he went to West Point and was stationed in Ohio, Missouri, Iowa and New York, among other places. In the early stages of the Civil War, he considered the succession of the Southern states to be betrayal of principles on which this country was built. He was asked to take a command in the Union Army, which he said he would do as long as Virginia did not secede. Because he considered his primary loyalty to be to Virginia, when it was clear that Virginia would secede, and only then, did he resign his commission in the US Army.

LOL! And even though I was born, brought up and have lived in the South all life, because I don't own any of those brands I'm not a Southerner? HAH!:D

I've been asked to resign my Southern-ness so many times, for so many reasons, why not clothing brands, lol

One thing I really don't get about the Sperrys is this tho' - why don't people wear socks or something with them? Guys, I hate to tell you this, but your feet REEK. To the extent that your sweat-soaked Sperrys and nasty feet that have been saturating in them all day have nearly made me pass out more than once. WHY DO YOU DO THIS??? Prove your Southern frattiness in some way that is less vomit-inducing, please.
