Oklahoma Alumni

Hey Kevin, Let me bounce an idea off of you.

I'm the kind of guy that gets bored easily, so I always try to find little things to keep me busy. Anyways.....

I was playing with the idea of starting a little website that would be specifically for my Zeta Lambda chapter brothers. Somewhere to share pictures, news, etc and keep track of other brothers.

Then I thought, maybe I can make it a Tulsa area Snakes website.

Well, now I'm thinking I'll make it for Tulsa to start, but work toward making it all of Oklahoma at some point in the future. I guess what nationals would call it is a geographical alumni club. (I know Dallas has one, http://www.sigmanutexas.com/ , but it isn't very functional)

Right now I'm in the very beginninig process of deciding the purpose and what all the site will include (blog for news, forums of course, member info page with contact list, helpful links, etc).
- I have myself (decent web knowledge) and a buddy who is really good at design. he'll make it, I'll upkeep it.
- Thinking of the domain (thought maybe tulsasigmanu.com for now, and oklahomasigmanu.com a bit later). both are available.
- and I have the web server space.

You know, I probably shoulda just messaged you.... I think I will now :D

I think that's a great idea. Having an active alumni base is very important for both active chapters and alumni alike... Good luck!

Love the idea. I know the Divisional Commander if you want to get ahold of him. I run into him at the court house probably at least once a month.

The idea is at the very beginning of life. I'm writing up my plans/mission statement. and talking over with my web guy on what would work best, layouts, etc.

I'll bug you for the Div Comm info once we actually have something. I'm still debating on the domain (oklahomasigmanu.com ??)

Tell me what you think of sections?

Main Logo: Not sure on the main logo (top of website) just yet. Ideas...? Tulsa downtown night skyline  . TU, OU, OSU, UCO logos. Knight, sword, badge, etc.

Site Sections (buttons):
- Home: Takes you back to the main “blog” screen.
- Blog: This is the first page you see, updates and news will be put here.
- About: Brief description of the sites purpose. Also include the “staff” info.
- Forums: Link to the forum area (forum areas tbd).
- Members: Not sure if I want to do this part…
- Calendar: Simple design. Easy to use and add dates/info.
- Store: Have Steve design logo (state of Oklahoma with SN cut out of it?). Create store. www.cafepress.com?
- Links: Links of importance, brief description of each.

That's a pretty good idea. Do you have people in Tulsa who can help get this thing off the ground? You definitely should contact IHQ regarding this. They probably have some literature for you, some things to fill out, etc. I did the same thing with our alumni chapter. I had to get 10 alums to sign the petitition. I'm not sure what the requirements are for an alumni club.

At any rate, IHQ should probably be your starting point.

As for the website idea, I think that's great.

OK, it's VERY informal. It's going to start as a online community, all contact will be done by email (keep all costs down), spread by word of mouth - just to get it going.

If it actually takes off, and I want to make it an "ACTUAL" Alumni Club, I'll go the Nationals route. I have read all the documentation that Nationals has for Clubs. Informal is the way to go at the beginning. Then I can do all the documentation with them, to get it mentioned in the Delta, and linked on the sigmanu.org site.
