Haliburton's response, and you can quote this:

"Ha Ha Ha"

The most interesting theory I've heard is that the move will put Haliburton's business records beyond the reach of American courts and legislative inquiries as far as discovery and investigation are concerned.

Would it really? Even if they were doing business with the Federal government?

I wonder if the US is still going to award them all of those bull-sh*t no-bid contracts now that they've left the country? And yes, since they moved to the middle east any type of federal investigation against them will be limited in nature.

Of course as long as they have holdings in US controlled banks, the US government can just FREEZE those financial holdings.

As I understand it:

no headquarters + no principal place of business = no Personal Jurisdiction

so this theory is what makes the most sense to me.

MysticCat 03-13-2007 02:03 PM

^^^ As long as they're doing business here, that provides a basis for general, personal jurisdiction. Whether records can be subpoenaed is another matter.

shinerbock 03-13-2007 02:38 PM

Maybe now some other American companies will develop the capabilities that Halliburton has, thus creating a realistic environment for a more competitive selection process.
