Spring Initiations

OK, lets hear those initiation reports! I went this weekend and had the
privilege of seeing 20 new brothers at Kappa-Omega (Georgetown) enter
the bond! I think that puts them at 64 actives, and just over 1300 initiates
since 1928.

PiLambda1 03-05-2007 02:36 PM

STLCOP has one.

Our school only allows fall recruitment - so we just have one for
the spring semester...

At least it won't take 12 hours like last semester when we had
15!

This one brings us up to 45 actives.

GammaZeta 03-05-2007 04:07 PM

Nice job guys. Coming from a traditionally small greek school, it always amazes me on how some get 20-50 recruits.

We had an average of 17 brothers for a chapter size through our 90 year history. I think the most we ever had in recent history was 40-45, and that was for one year only, probably a fluke where some people stayed an extra year or two. Our school average was right around 20.

So when you talk about recruiting 20-30 people, you are more than doubling some chapters!!!

Pi Iota has added another 6 this year.....we only have Spring Initiation and we did ok, I think that puts us at the 61 mark and we have only been chartered for 2 years.

WOW, fantastic job a Pi Iota!

Trey, you Brothers are doing great!:)

DillonAH1711 03-14-2007 01:17 AM

I was one of 17 initiated last fall and we are initiating 4 this semester... 54 actives now?

17 was the biggest associate class we've had in awhile since our house had trouble and we are finally building back up winning first at the last 2 major greek events!

Last weekend I had the pleasure of watching 7 men initiated at Epsilon Mu (Univ. of Florida). This brings the chapter up to 85 men and total initates to around 1885. Next semester should see our 2000th initiate.
In addition to myself we had a number of distinguished guest including John G, Doc Smith, Doc Dirghalli, Ed Leonard, Daniel Shouse, Tony Dunn, and Andrew Holcomb.

GammaZeta 03-26-2007 11:45 AM

2000 is a number to be very proud of.

The last man GZ initiated was 1,500.

docroc67 03-26-2007 01:24 PM

Brothers,

Zeta-Upsilon initiated six new members last Friday. We now have 17 Actives and 2 AMs. We will be doing a Spring Rush in hopes of picking up 2 or 3 more AMs.

Doc, I'm a little confused. you have 17 actives and 2 ams after initiation? Are the 2 holdovers?

Wow, what a line up of dignitaries.(SIC).
2000 is a milestone that is unbeleivable! I hope you reach it soon and be very proud!

Does this include TKN?

Mike, how does this compare to the other GLOs at Un. Miami Oh?

Good to see us back on campus!

EM1843 03-27-2007 10:47 AM

Yes, it includes TKNs but we aren't sure how the numbering etc. went. That part of our history has been "lost."

Brother GammaZeta,

No, we are doing continuous recruitment. The two AMs have not gone through their associate member period. They have all the proper qualifications; they just have not gone through the required "education" period. They were brought in too late to be initiated now.

They will be initiated, along with any new AMs we get this Spring, at the start of the next school year.

We will do continuous recruitment next school year too. This means that our Colony will non-stop recruit upper class men in the Fall and all eligible students in the Winter and Spring.

Most chapters at Miami do very limited recruitment in the Fall, their heavy effort is in the Winter, with no recruitment in the Spring. We can't follow that schedule and build a strong Zeta.

We are looking for quality men at all times. We are small in numbers right now, but the continuous recruitment approach is netting us some outstanding men.

I hope that this helps explain our situation.

Mike Raymond

Miami University - ZU Colony

Brother Tom,

We are very small at this time. Just laying the foundation for a strong return! There are 26 active fraternities on campus. About 30% of our undergraduates are in a fraternity or sorority.

It is a very old and traditional fraternity system. Lots of legacies and wealthy patrons. A million dollar gift from a fraternity Alum to our Greek Affairs Office is just one example.

Our big Chapters are Beta Theta Pi and Kappa Alpha Order with over 130 members each. Lambda Chi Alpha is at number 24 in the line-up. But, not for long!

I would guess that the average fraternity has about 70 members. Of course, our sororities are huge with a number of them with 175 members or more.

Our campus has all kinds of monuments, memorials, traditions, and events that are part of our Greek heritage. Someday we will even have a Greek Letter Society Museum on campus!

I hope this answers your question.

Yours in ZAX,

Mike Raymond,
Z-U Zeta
