Political Jobs / Greek/Campus Life Jobs

So, here are a couple of career pondering questions....

My wife WILL be going to medical school in May 08 and at the same time I'll have finished my MBA. Because of our location in Atlanta we will have to move to where ever she gets in.

Here's the problem, I AM A PLANNER. It unnerves me not to know details of WHERE we'll be moving or if my company has a location there.

So, I must prepare myself for other jobs...

What are things that I can do to prepare or set myself up for jobs in some kind of political capacity (not really a politician, but support staff) OR in the field of student life.

Any ideas? Someone help.

What level of politics? What have you done to this point?

I really haven't done anything yet, just voting. :(

Well what do you want to do? What level do you want to work at?

If you want to work in national politics, thats pretty tough to get into without extensive experience/connections. I'm guessing since you're moving you're expecting to do something on the local or state level. I guess you could try to work at a district congressional office. Try to project where you're going to end up and pick a candidate in that state to campaign for. With no political experience the only way you're going to get on someone's staff is by working your way in or by knowing someone. Good luck, somebody else can probably help with the local level, most of the people I know are either state lobbyists or work on the Hill.

Do you want to do election campaign type work, or more office work for a standing politician? If you want to do campaign work, start as a volunteer and contact the campaign headquarters. You might also try contacting the office of the political party you favor in the city you live now. Do some volunteer activites and network with the staffers. You never know who they might know in the city/town where you are moving.
