I Saw X-Men...
 

And I gotta say, I wasn't as disappointed as I thought I would be. Any fan of the cartoon or the comic series knows that they have been planning this movie for a while. All that anticpation usually leads to a big let down, but not this time. With the exception of a few things, which I won't mention just in case someone hasn't seen it yet, I dug the movie. And they left it open for sequels, which I hope will follow quickly given the near decade it took to make this flick. So what did everyone else think?

Halle Berry as Storm- Better than I thought it would be.
WHERE are the outfits? They had on black leather. Black leather!! And then they had the nerve to make a joke about it.
I am not a huge X-Men fan, I like it, but I'm not a fanatic about it and the movie just seemed a little hollow. Some cool special effects, but just wack in general. The movie was so bad that I actively considered just getting up and leaving.

If you are going to not heed my advice and go see it anyway, go to the matinee.

I've read the comics and watched the cartoon, and I also thought that rogue resembled Jubilee. I know you can't develop all the characters in such a short time, but they could have at least gave us 5 minutes worth of insight into the characters. I don't know why they picked Halle Berry as Storm either. That seemed wrong to me. We discussed that in the good movie thread too. Check it out!

I thought the movie was tight. i thought Halle made a good storm. When books or comic books or cartoons are turned into movies i think people expect to much. I mean the book version will always be better because there is no time limit and the writers are able to go into much depth. Movies have to be cut here and there. I loved the movie I hope there is a sequel.

All that I have to say is that my three year old sat still through the hole movie and clapped afterwards. He is also still talking about it.

No I am not a fan, maybe saw the cartoon once or twice, but if it can sit my "three year old active box" still for almost two hours....I love it....lol

(And Halle Berry really doesn't look to great with the bleach blonde look)

I LOVED X-Men. I went with three kids and they sat on the edge of their seats the entire time, so I was satisfied. I'm a big special effects fan, so that's what I liked best. Lil' Kim wig aside, http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif at first I was thinking that Halle Berry was a pretty soft Storm, but she redeemed herself somewhat. If she'd added a snarl here or there, she would've totally redeemed herself. Wolverine was tight.

Yea wolverine was tight. I like the one that could change into anyone and rogue.

Just a couple of things,
First, the black leather. The early X-men all wore uniforms quite similar to to the ones worn by the characters in the movie. I think that if you know the charcters, it was like picking up towards the beginning of the series. They also simplified somethings for the purpose of the film, i.e. Rogue shared a resemblance to another character Jublilee, and Magneto took on some Apocalypse type characteristics. But in a way, I do kind of agree with hose simplifications. All of those charaters would have made things to complicated to understand for the viewer who was not already a fan. I think that what you see as a lack of character development could be a result of you not being a big fan. I already knew the characters going in. They were not strangers, (I know that sounds weird), so they didn't really need development. One of the things that disappointed me about X-Files when it cam out a couple of years ago was that they spent to much time trying to explain things for people who were not fans of the show, so I was gald that this was not the case here. Well, I will stop now. Storm did need more lines and I am still not sure about there choice of Halle Berry for the part. (Nothing against the woman herself.) By the by, where is this good movie thread?

My husband and I just saw X-Men, and I must that though the movie was one long introduction and seemed bent on creating a future movie franchise, I am all excited to find some X-men comic books. I casually read my brother's as a kid, but I now I want to get to know the characters better, 'cuz I sure as hell didn't get to know them in the film. I kept bugging my husband through the movie asking "isn't there another X-man named XYZ?", and so forth.

The special fx were TIGHT, though.

If anyone can point me to any good online X-men resources, I'd appreciate it.

Okay, Halle can't act her way out of a paper bag (and I'm STILL mad at her for assassinating Dorothy Dandridge's character by playing her) and her "porn star wig" didn't help matters much. And didn't Storm used to call up the heavens by some sort of incantation? Oh well, I wasn't expecting much from her, and as usual, Ms. Berry didn't disappoint.

Wolverine was the stuff! And I thought he was kinda sexy, too. But then again, even though he was bad, Magneto (Patrick Stewart) was working the sexy thing too.

My advice: go to the matinee and pay $5.50 (or the dollar show, if you can wait a few weeks).

It's very easy for someone to dislike the movie. (I Loved it) B/C it truly revolved around Wolverine (just like the mags and cartoons)Storm and Cyclopse got as much screen time as they do on the cartoon.(hardly any) From what the creator and director said, the costumes had to be toned down for realism. I thought they did a good job, even if Rouge was really Jubillee.

Well 4 kids if you include my hubby http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif. He usually falls asleep, but he was wide awake for this one. I'm a big kid at heart anyway, so it was easy for me to like it. The shape changer, I think was Mystique. I heard somewhere that they originally were thinking of Angela Bassett for Storm. I don't know what happened, but I think she would've been better. I've NEVER been a big X-Men fan, but now I am definately hooked. I'm looking for that website. My three year old actually told me to be quiet in the middle of the movie, I don't know what wolverine did to him, but I enjoyed it, you know I will be getting it on tape too right. (But then again, it maight have been Hlle Berry's hair that kept him mesmirized.)(sorry, I can't stop talking about that hair)

But as a non X-MEN fanatic, I will probably be one of the first in line for the sequal....it was interesting

We finally went to see "X-Men" this week. I loved it! The special effects, the characters, everything. I'm not a HUGE "X-Men" fan but I became familiar with the cartoon years ago when I started dating my husband. So, I was familiar with the characters, etc. I would go see it again.

And yes! He was so impressed by those claws. So much so that he kept talking about them all night.

But get this....My husband actually told our son that he has the same claws. He also told him not to tell anyone because people would want to see them all the time. And, just like Wolverine, they hurt when they come out.
