Hannah?

Is Hannah considered our official or unofficial mascot? I was browsing the NPC Trivia thread in the Greek Life forum and many of the other sororities mentioned having "unique" mascots that weren't shared among any other NPC sororities. I figured Hannah HAD to be unique, but then I thought maybe she's not our official mascot. Does anyone know?

Hannah is official, but we don't know when Raggedy Ann came to replace the classic Hannah doll.

I've never heard of any other mascot but Hannah.

-The original words to the song "Hannah" were written by the collegians in the Alpha Delta chapter in the mid 1920's.
-"Hannah" is not a Raggedy Ann doll. The original was a pigtailed blond wearing a short skirt and a sailor blouse. No one knows when the Raggedy Ann doll became the symbol for Hannah. (eta: I think DG approached HASBRO about Hannah being a Raggedy Ann doll, but HASBRO said no, because Raggedy Ann was already copyrighted [I remember reading this in WATCHWORDS]. I personally believe Raggedy Ann basically came to represent Hannah, since that was THE DOLL of the time..there was no Bratz, no Barbie, no Cabbage Patch Kids.)

Hannah
Well, well, well, Hannah
My Delta Gamma
She's got a figure like a baby grand piana
She's kind of nifty
She weighs two-fifty
But fat girls now and then
Are cherished by the best of men

Well, well, well, Hannah
My Delta Gamma
I'll put my arms around as far as they will go, go, go, go, go
I don't care for other faces
I just go for Hannah's graces
Hannah, my Delta Gamma!

I had to alternate between  and :) because I think the words of the song are indicative of another time.

Actually, the Raggedy Ann doll was the original Hannah. The Hannah figure replaced her because of the copyright issues. But now I think they may have been resolved.
"Unique" mascots may refer to other sororities' chapters that are allowed to adopt mascots unique to their chapter. When I was a PCC (regional collegiate specialist now), a chapter once asked me if they could choose a chapter mascot. I queried a member of Council who said DG does NOT have unique chapter mascots.

We had a songbook in our chapter house that had a song called "For Beauty's Sake" and it was to the tune of "Mama's L'il Baby Loves Shortnin' Bread" and it was like "All the little pledges are fat and rolly/All the little pledges need to lose some weight" followed by "So put down the cookies/put down the cake/put down the muffins/for beauty's sake" and I was

Aren't you glad we have a STRICT anti-hazing policy now? Haha, this song could give some new members a complex!

"fat and rolly" is almost too funny to be insulting :)

(almost)
