Challenge coins

Just out of curiousity, does anyone have a challenge coin of their org?

Tom Earp 02-21-2007 05:45 PM

Jon, I do not have one. but I ahve gotten IFO from a Brother and He said it is not worth it.

Said they were cheap peices of crap!

But what Do I know?

Jon, save your money for something authentic. I paid $14.98 for one of those, kept it for a while, then one day just threw it in the trash. Live and learn.

Not suprisingly, we do not have a Gamma Phi Beta challenge coin. The idea of a bunch of my elderly "senior sisters" throwing down a coin at a bar is kind of comical. :)

I have, however, been awarded two US Army challenge coins for my work with ROTC. I don't have one from my roommates' [USMC] squadron; but, you'd like it Jon. It's black and has a big skull and crossbones on it. ;)

I'm proud of military coins (they are not cheap pieces of crap; one is gold plated) and have them on display. If I was a guy, I might appreciate receiving my fraternity coin as a token for service to the chapter or fraternity programming...but I'm not sure about just picking one up for $14.95. When it's given to you, it means something.

.....Kelly :)

I've been looking into picking up a Sigma Nu challenge coin. They're pretty cool looking, but I've never met a brother who had one.

Think I saw a SN very recently on eBay. Pictures make them look good.

Not sure really what the heck they are other than something to sell to someone?

Supposedly if you're at a bar, you say Coin Challenge and whoever doesn't have a coin has to buy you a drink, but if everyone has a coin you have to buy everyone a drink.

Or so the Germans would have us believe.

I thought only the military did the challenge coin thing. I have a ton on coins but all have to do with the military. I think it would be a nice addition to have some greek challenge coins in the mix. It would totally throw people off when they looked at my collection at the office.
