Starting a Local Sorority
We are trying to start up a local sorority on my campus. Is there any advice or pointers? We are trying to get recognized as an org and need to create our constitution and some other necessary things. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I am actually a co-founder of my sorority and I think that its a great idea to bring your friends and other women across campus together in a unified way thats different from other organizations. i did alot of research to help get my organization a better foundation. But mostly everything, our motto, crests, symbols, color, things of that nature are all things that my friends and I believe represent us in the best way... i think that the best approach to take

My name is Dawn and me and a friend of mine just founded our own fraternity last year, Sigma Delta Upsilon Fraternity, Inc. Established June 30th, 2006... we have 20 founding members and we are a local fraternity founded in brooklyn, Ny...for DJ's. (Not founded at any college....but willing to explore the possibility) (DJ fraternity, our tradition is stepping). Though we are still in our early stages of establishment... do you have any advice for us?

Wikipedia has a pretty long list of national fraternities and sororities, it's a good idea to scan their website for symbols, traditions, etc, so you would know what's expected of you.
There are certain symbols every greek organization has, such as colors, a flower, etc. and some symbols only some have such as a tree, a patron god, etc. The websites on Wiki can give you a lot of ideas as well as give you a feel for what should be secretive and what isn't, although it varies. |
