Door Songs/Door Stacking
I did a couple searches and wound up with nothing, but not for lack of trying.
I was trying to find pictures and descriptions of door songs with door stacking so I could help explain it easier to my chapter since this year is the first time we are actually going to be stacking the door. I know Alabama does this, but I was wondering what other schools do it as well. And does anyone have any pictures? I have been able to find ONE. I feel like I need more. Any help would be very helpful, Thanks! |
I tried too - I know it was a fall recruitment thread and there were a couple of photos - thought it was at UW but nothin'.

This is one I found with a quick google search. I'm sure you can find more. I know I have pictures somewhere, but I cannot locate them.

Out of curiosity, how does one get in the door when it is stacked, or is this an exiting thing?
/no houses, no doors |
At Ole Miss is it done before Philanthropy Parties and Skit Parties begin. There is a method to "stacking" the door. Usually the smaller girls go on the bottom and then benches and small ladders are used sometimes to make it look like the door way is full. The Recruitment Chair will swing the door open and the girls will start screaming and do their door songs. Then they run out of the door screaming their PNMs name and pick up their PNM and bring her into the house. They start practicing their door stacks after Spring Break and continue up until the days of recruitment. Some houses also "stack" their windows. This mean the rest of the chapter that cannot fit in the door (some houses have smaller doors) they go and stack the windows. The windows do not open obviously but they can still be heard through the windows doing their door songs and smiling. It's a great sight to see. I know there are some pics on here of DG and some other houses doing door stacks. Also, it not very fun being on the bottom on the door stack. When I was in the skit my sophomore and junior years I had to be on the bottom and my poor knees were just all bruised up. However, that’s the price you pay to have an awesome recruitment!
ETA: I think they also do them now before the "ice water" parties which are basically open house parties that are a couple of weeks before recruitment starts. |
I never knew there was a name for it! LOL. At UCF, the windows are covered with sheets or tinfoil during recruitment at all of the sororities. We had formations at the door, but we didn't call it a door stack-- didn't use chairs or risers, either-- just arranged in height order, and had the shortest girls in front sitting on the floor, the next level up crouching, and so on, used the front stairs, etc.

Thanks! We did door songs/chants but were not allowed outside of the rooms (big ballrooms in the student center) particularly as there were four of these rooms right next to each other. And this would have been chaos! :D So I was having a hard time grasping how that worked.

At one campus I went to, I was told that most of the houses have front windows that raise from the bottom up so they can window-stack for rush.
|
We have songs and cheers that we can do while pairing girls off at the door, but we do not do door stacking since it is against our recruitment rules for sorority members to be outside the property while there's a party going on. KSU Panhellenic considers singing or chanting in the doorway to be technically "outside".

Wow, and I thought coming into the room and having all the girls standing in formation and smiling at you was creepy, but door stacking would scare the crap out of me. I got scared just looking at some of the pics!

At Ole Miss they stack the door as well after the PNMs have left and then the PNMs wait before they leave and watch the exit song....and once again the door is stacked! |
We used to informally stack the door during our exit song, once all the PNMs were out of the room. We didn't use ladders or benches or anything, just kneeled or squatted, leaned over, etc. and filled up all the space. Our rush advisor (OK City alum) taught us that.

door stacking
At my school we do a variation of door stacking. We start jumping, banging on the walls annd door, and singing a few minutes before the pnms arrive (we basically stack the door, but the pnms don't see this) . We continue singing random songs until the Rho Gamma knocks on the door. There is usually a two minute delay before the Rho Gamma opens the door so we can line up and the pnms can hear us . Then, we line up and switch to our regular entrance song while the actives and pnms are paired off. We also sort of stack the door when the pnms leave as well.
