Thon time again - $4.7 million for the kids

The Penn State IFC Dance marathon is this weekend.

"One-hundred and eighty-seven families, 1,300 student volunteers, 46 hours of nonstop dancing and an entirely new home, all in hopes to find a cure for pediatric cancer -- Thon 2007 is about to begin."
Over the years, they've raised $20 million for the Four Diamonds Fund at Hershey Medical Center, providing support for families with childhood cancer.

Yeah, fraternities and sororities -- it's all about sex, drugs and beer.

4.7 million for the kids. They know the money total already?

I feel sad and old now. this is my first THON as an alum and since I'm sick, I'm stuck here in Philly and not at PSU as planned.

GO STATE! BEAT CANCER!

blueGBI 02-18-2007 06:52 PM

Update: $5,240,985.17 has been raised for kids with cancer. THON 2007 just smashed the record from THON 2006 in the first year at the BJC

Penn State... beating cancer since 1972.

LionTamer 02-18-2007 08:36 PM

You beat me to it!

Wow!

$5.2 million! When I was there, it was in the White Building! Now it's in the BJC, and they SMASHED the old record!

PM me, BlueGBI - want to hear how things are going for you in the City of Brotherly Love....

Same here...except stuck in Conshohocken. First THON since I finished at PSU. I wanted to go up, but my family was having a Chinese New Year's dinner this weekend.

Here's a youtube video of the line dance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9mCZ5l31bp0

I nearly cried at the computer, I wish I had been there. I should make it up for THON 2008.

Coolest philanthropy event in the country. Here's another nice YouTube clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Np6el...related&search=

Thanks so much Peppy GPhiB

Great video. Wish the clips hadn't moved quite as fast, but it was quite moving.

And joe-pa-licious!

Thon has always amzed me. Those utube clips are great.

I came across this from the ZTA chapter:

Zeta Tau Alpha was heavily involved in the Penn State Dance Marathon. Zeta Tau Alpha along with its paired organization, Alpha Tau Omega, has been the top money-raiser for THON for the past 11 years, making their organization alone the third-largest student philanthropy in the country. Once again this year, the team was the top money-raiser, contributing $293,591 to the Four Diamonds Fund.

PSU should be so proud to have all the amazing students that are THON!
