I have a question that has something to do with Alpha Kappa Alpha

I'm a high school senior and I have a friend who wants to pledge AKA. There's nothing wrong with that, but the problem I have with her is that she has an AKA layout on her myspace page. I personally find that offensive, mainly because I want to go greek when I get to college and would find it disrespectful for someone to represent my sorority when they are not a member. I told her that if someone found and reported it that she could get blacklisted, but she still has the layout on her page. Should I report her? I didn't at first, because I figured she was like many of the other girls at my school who want to pledge AKA who doesn't know anything about the sorority except the colors, but I told her, so I know she knows. One of my other friends already reported her to the website, but I want to know what you think I should do.

The link was up before and is gone now.

I took it down, because I don't feel right posting her page on an open site like this. IF you want to see it, you'll have to send me a message. (Note: I do understand that myspace is probably a bigger site than this, but she decided to put it up there)

hey, your friend put a myspace page up representing something she shouldnt be.
you posting the link isnt any different than me typing in "LiNiqueLi's friend's Myspace page" in Google and getting the link.

greekchat is public. myspace is public. what is done in the dark comes to light, but if what she is doing is already in the light, youre no better or worse by hiding it cause she put it out there.

so, WHY TAKE IT DOWN? i guess we really dont need to see the page to answer your question. i dont think you need to report her, per se, but if shes your friend like that (and that is always questionable since everyone is friends with everyone because of myspace/facebook) then tell her what you told us. if she cant take the heat, get out her kitchen and let an actual AKA catch up with her.

i mean if youre telling complete strangers (meaning us) about her, chances are a LOT of other myspace users have seen her page. she'll meet her match. she's probably not the only one doing that mess and she wont be the last. like i said, she'll get caught up by the wrong AKA and get e-hemmed up.

now if you want an AKA member to respond, you can sit and wait on it... but thats my 22 cents.

What's her name?

Yes myspace is public, but the difference between her putting it on her myspace and me posting her myspace is that she is the one doing it, not me or anyone else. You are right about other people seeing her page, and that's what I told her, but I guess she thought I was hating on her. I was only trying to help her out because I know some die hard AKAs. One of her teachers, who is a Delta, suggested that I tell her to take it down.

ok fine. im just saying this. dont NOT post it because she would feel like you were backstabbing her. cause if thats your worry, you pretty much are willing to "report" her for this, or so you say. again, SHE volunteered to be caught out there the minute she attached her name and face to a public page.

it would be one thing if her page was listed as private, or you needed a password to get to it, or whatever, but since you didnt indicate it, she's wide open to be seen. and while those letters are copyright protected, your friend's page isn't so even legally she leaves herself (and her page) to be put out there en masse.

no, you're helping her because you're a true friend and you dont want her hurting her chances of pursuing membership, right? are you worried about her catching a beatdown? are you trying to help her cause its ethically wrong? or, are you "helping her" because YOU, at some point, want to be an AKA, and she is somehow in a weird way, insulting your "future" sorority?

RedefinedDiva 02-15-2007 12:31 AM

If you KNOW some diehard AKAs, why not report it to them?

I understand what you're saying right here and I agree that if she's caught, she has no one to blame but herself. What really made me mad was that I can guarantee that she knows little to nothing about the sorority and if you're announcing that you want to be something, learn a little history. That's the least she could've done, in my opinion

I was trying to help her because it's ethically wrong. I don't know what I want to pledge yet, because I have been influenced by so many women in different sororities. I'm waiting until I go to college to see which one of these sororities will best suit me, but I know that if I was in a sorority and I saw someone wearing my colors and "repping" my letters I would be highly pissed because they haven't earned the right to do so. I have respect for GLOs and find it offensive for someone to disrespect any of them because of the influence those women have had on me
