What is suiciding?
 

Anyone? Sorry, I've been reading some post and this came up. I am new to the whole Greek semester. I just got my bid tonight. It was informal rush, and I never did formal rush..so I am just trying to catch up with some of the lingo.

Suiciding is when you go through formal rush and attend several pref events. Then when signing your bid card you only list ONE chapter. It means you'll only get a chance to get a bid from that chapter and you can't be picked up by any other chapters on campus.

The "PC" term for suiciding is ISP or Intentional Single Preference.

If you suicide, it's less likely that you'll receive a bid. On the other hand, it can be a good idea if you pref one sorority you love and one sorority you can't stand; if you list both sororities, there's a chance you could match to the sorority you can't stand, and then you're bound to it for one year (you don't have to pledge, but you can't pledge any other NPC sorority).
