The best part of that whole awards show was Tony Bennett and Stevie Wonder winning the first award. Also, the Doors and the Grateful Dead......whom they didn't really recognize at all won Lifetime Achievement Awards, despite the fact that both bands were far and away better than any of that mainstream crap in the building.

The Dixie Chicks? Are you f**king kidding me? Has anyone actually heard that song or listened to their album? I wouldn't know because they have pretty much been boycotted in most places in the South (or atleast where I have been). The way I saw it, they racked up a bunch of awards for writing a song about how they didn't really give a shit about bashing the US and its government in a foreign country. But hey, give em a break, they "aren't ready to make nice".

That "My Grammy Moment" was a piece of shit.

I thought Christina Aguilera was going to pop a vocal chord.

Ummm.. Macallan25 that's actually the point of the song - basically saying that they'll stick to their guns... which is alot easier given that they're right about Bush.

Anyways the song and album did rather well outside of the Southern US, so it really shouldn't come as a surprise that they'd also do well at the Grammys.

I was happy about the Dixie Chicks winning. I liked their music before, but last night turned me into a fan. I have a lot of respect for them. They did not deserve all the crap that they got for that one comment. That is the end of my political moment. It is just my thoughts....my freedom of speech. I think most people forgot what that means. ......okay no more politics coming from smiley! :p


Back to the Grammy's, Fergie looked amazing and Christina was awesome. I love Justin's song "What Goes Around..." and seeing it live just made me love it more, although I am not crazy about its music video that premiered on MTV last night.

I liked the show overall, but it was just so long.

I don't care what they think of Bush, everyone is entitled to their own opinion freedom of speech and blah blah blah. (nor do I give two shits what you think either). For them to go to a foreign country and tell a concert crowd how ashamed they are of the President and the US government is rather disgusting and uncalled for.

The album actually didn't set the world on fire in the US and was aided by heavy sales in places like Australia and Canada (imagine that).

The Grammy's aren't legitimate anyway. It generally rewards what is popular rather than what is good. Its all easily digestible hollywood type garbage. Basically you have to be devoid of talent and produced by the record label, anti-establishment, or just so terrible that idiotic music critics give you acclaim because your work is so non-conformist (meaning its utterly terrible).

I didn't pay attention much, but the following are some albums I think really deserved awards....

1) We Shall Overcome: The Pete Seeger Sessions --Bruce Springsteen
2) All the Roadrunning---Emmylou Harris and Mark Knopfler
3) Modern Times-- Bob Dylan
4) Road to Escondido- JJ Cale and Eric Clapton

I know a couple of these won in the smaller categories, but when you say "Best Album" it shouldnt be the best album that most people have heard. Plus its not like these are obscure artists, they've just got a bit more depth than the normal crap.

The Grammys are completely irrelevant now. They're safe and political choices and don't really reward modern work...it's as if they don't realize that every new year brings opportunities to honor new talent. It's like the People's Choice awards where people vote for their "favorite" such-and-such.

Wow. Perhaps I should repeat the "infamous" quote just so we know what horrible things they said:
'Just so you know, we're ashamed the President is from Texas'

Anyways why was it so "oh noez, them bitches" for them to say that one little line? I mean seriously why get so bent oit of shape over such a simple statement of opinion? It's not like it happens all the time or anything...

What that a non-jingoistic country album with good songs on it would do well in Canada and Australia? Shocking...

I don't like Bush. At all.

BUT you still DO NOT go into another country saying you are ashamed of him... whether it's from where he is, or the war, or even about him choking on a pretzel. You don't do that.

But they have every right to say stuff negative about Bush. Yes, it was tacky because they said it in another country, but it is their right.

Again, not to start an arguement but it really bugs me when people "forget" that they have that right and just because they are famous doesn't mean that their consitutional rights are taken away from them. (And I'm not saying you did, I'm just talking in general).

Taking The Long Way has achieved a platinum certification

Four weeks after its release on May 23, Taking The Long Way has achieved a platinum certification by the RIAA for sales topping 1 million units.

The U.S. success has been echoed in similar chart-topping sales figures around the world. Taking The Long Way debuted at #1 (and remained in the top slot for four weeks) in Canada, where it is already 2x platinum, and at #2 in Australia, where it's certified platinum. The album debuted at #8 in New Zealand, where it's been certified gold. Released in Europe on June 12, Taking The Long Way has already crossed the two million mark in sales worldwide with the album hitting the Top 10 in Sweden (peaked at #1), Australia (#2), Germany (#5), Europe (#6) Switzerland (#6), Ireland (#7, gold), Norway (#7), Austria (#8), and the UK Top 75 (#10, gold). The album is a new entry on the charts in Finland (#17), Denmark (#37), Holland (#42), and Belgium (#61). In every market in which it's charted, with the exception of New Zealand and Ireland, Taking The Long Way has the highest-charting debut numbers of any album in the Dixie Chicks' career.

Notice that 4 weeks after its release, it had sold a million copies in the US. It was their highest charting album.
They never said anything against the government. In fact, they said they supported the troops. (edited due to mistake in facts on my part.)

I couldn't stand the Dixie Chicks before, during or after they said anything about W. I think their music is terrible, and Natalie Maines looked like absolute crap. I hope Xtina beat them all up in the parking lot afterwards.

Really enjoyed the Grammys! LOVED seeing the Police -- great to see them back. Thought Lionel was really good and soooo glad that Stevie Wonder and Tony Bennet won -- I had tears when he thanked his mom!

And congrats to Carrie Underwood -- I love her! Sooo glad that she won 2 grammys! She really has done well.

i was upset justin didn't win best album. boo. :(

that he lost to the dixie chicks is a little salt in the wound. personally, i think what miss natalie maines still needs to realize is that, yes, freedom of speech gives her the power to say what she wants without a public flogging, however--it's not a "act like pure white trash" card, though. the little simpsons "haha" was obnoxious. ok, so you're a bit miffy over the boycotts, but have a little class. i'm all about freedom of speech, but i'm also about people being polite and sounding educated and like a grown adult and not a kid cartoon character. it's like she learned nothing about maybe, just maybe, she should be more mindful of how she words things....i'm not saying WHAT she says, but HOW she says it (before i get blasted). you can still make a statement and get your point across without being an ass.

That crap is not country.
