Voting process of new members

Hello all I am a new person here and this is my first time posting.

My question is about the voting process when it comes to fraternities. I currently rushed and the process is over. I got to know some of the guys and am semi close with a lot of the brothers. However one of my closest friends is in the fraternity as well that I just rushed for. How much pull can one guy have if they really feel strongly about a certain person who they want to be a member?

It depends on the guy. If your buddy is in strong standing and looked up upon, then of course he has a lot of pull.

In my day, it only took one person to say "no" to end a pledges chances of getting into our fraternity. So, it also depends on that.... But, as long as you don't have any mortal enemies in the house I think it's safe to say your probably going to be in buddy :)

I hate to say this, but membership selection is private for just about every Greek organization. If you have friends who got in, try rushing again. They'll know you better and you know at least one guy who's "in" will have something good to say on your behalf. But as to what kind of good that does--I really don't think anyone's going to be able to say what their membership selection process entails.

thanks

Hey i appreciate your honesty... If it is something that is private I totally understand. it was an innocent question really as I was just trying to gain as much information as possible because I am highly interested in Greek life.

Stef, that's generally the rule for NPC groups. For NIC groups, it's never so simple. Almost always, your answer is "it varies." For Sigma Nu, I'll back up my brother here, it's not a secret at all. Were you to come into my chapter house during rush, this would be something explained to you. I don't see the harm in answering this individual's question here the same way we'd do it if he were asking a question during some sort of recruitment function.

Again Joe, the best answer to your question is that it greatly varies from organization to organization, from chapter to chapter. Your chances vary depending on who you are and how you are.

That's actually pretty cool. There are a lot of times I wished NPCs would be more transparent with things like that--I hate having to explain during rush that "um...I really can't say what we do once y'all leave, but it's good. and um, fun and stuff."

Yes or pretending it doesn't exist.

Membership Selection, that thing that doesn't really happen... but it does.

Kevin as always gives great advise!

If one has gone through the new member portion and are still there, it is normal that you will make it!

New Guys jitters are normal!

If you have GPA, (IMPORTANT), and you have filled requirements, then there is a good chance you will be accepted.
