Beta Tattoo

After seeing a few designs out there i decided to go with something a bit more traditional, but with some flare... Once finished, it will have a wood carving, antique feel to it.

One of the nicest ones I've seen. If I can get around to it, I'll post my Beta tattoos - I have two of them. Nice job and please post when you have it finished...

There is a stigma at my chapter concerning Beta tats.

Every brother that gets one ends up quitting within about a year. Usually not on the best of terms. Any time someone brings it up to get one we tell them to wait until they are almost ready to graduate.

I've never been one for tats, but if I did get one, it'd be a simple one. Just three small (maybe like 3/4 inch) stars in a line, high up on my bicep (almost to the shoulder).

Interesting you mention that. Members of some military force groups report the same for their recruits- a tattoo being a somewhat reliable indicator of someone who will wash out of training.

At one of the chapters where I was active, a tattoo was fairly common just above the ankle (and it was a college thing really- other fraternities there had the same tradition.) At the other, few got them.

But there was no significant pressure about it. Good thing since this is a pretty big prohibition for Jews and most of the Christian denominations on religious grounds.

To each his own, however. I will tell you Rath that while I would never consider a tattoo for myself, yours looks pretty awesome. How long did that take to apply? The wood finish appearance is especially well done.

Keep in mind this is my first tattoo ever...

But, my first sitting i sat for 4-5 hours, including about 3-4 breaks and a full lunch break on top of that.

To some that may seem like a hell of a long time, especially for what is completed, but im glad the artist is taking her time, and paying more attention to detail. If you care to look, the letters a a little choppy at the outline... but that was completely my fault.. i was a bit squirmy at first.

The artist is Jenn Dabbs, who was actually on the reality show Ink'd, based on the Hart and Huntington Tattoo parlor at the palms in Las Vegas. She's actually my pledge bro's sister, go figure.

I have about an hour to an hour and a half to go. The shading needs to be finished, on the crest (obviously) the dragon, and the stars need to be added. Then more highlights and detail to give more of a wood feel to it.

one of the best Beta tattoos I've seen. I would actually consider getting that one...

Our chapter has a habit of getting one of two things: the stylized dragon or three stars.

ECUJacob 06-05-2007 05:43 PM

while I was in Oxford this past weekend, I got the three stars inked on my lower leg above my ankle... once it's healed, I'll post a pic.

Cool Beans, I also have a tattoo of three stars, but its on my left wrist. I got it from a Beta in Germany

I want to get this one on my back---

That one is pretty cool. I'd almost consider that one. I think I would like just an outline of the dragon instead of a solid version.

I know this thread is old.. but I got myself inked up on Thursday so I figured I'd share. Took this pic right afterwards in the parlor- couldn't wait to share lol.

I left space in the wing beneath the letters for chapter letters (??) and my roll number (5).
I'll be adding those when we get our charter (as we don't have chapter letters yet).

ZZ-kai- 02-15-2009 09:36 AM

Thats a great tattoo, nice work.

ECUJacob 02-16-2009 01:12 AM

Looks good. Hopefully you'll be able to fill in the other parts soon.

After receiving our charter at the 171st in DC, I went to get some more ink- here's the finished product!
