Recruitment

Hey everyone, does anybody have any new or any ideas about recruitment, being that locals on our college campus aren't allowed to participate in formal rush, we have to creat our own means of "rush". and we are running low on suggestions?
Thanks ahead of time

WHAT!?! Your group is not allowed to participate in formal rush because you're local? what a crock of shit! Are you allowed to put up rush fliers?

Actually, Lil'G, there is a good reason why the campus doesn't allow local groups to participate in NPC Formal Recruitment - the procedures and unanimous agreements of the NPC do not apply to them and it's almost impossible for a campus to administer an NPC Recruitment procedure at the same time as a non-NPC recruitment. If a local participated in NPC recruitment, they would have to entertain the same number of potential members at each event as the NPC groups. How can a chapter that (hypothetically) only has 25 members adequately interact with 6 groups of 50 women each day? They can't...and they come out looking worse for it.

My suggestion is to advertise heavily during campus formal recruitment (school newspaper, flyers and posters on campus) - get the word out that after the NPC recruitment is over, your group will be holding interest meetings. In your ads, specify what you stand for (never, ever 'dis the NPC groups, it's bad form and give you a bad rep) and what kind of member you are looking for.

If you can schedule far enough in advance, list the meeting place and time for the first interest meeting. Make it short and informational - a show & tell. Then, collect the names of the women that show up and send out invitations to your first recruitment event. Be sure to include a note on how much you enjoyed meeting them and seeing their interest in your group.

I was in a local sorority and we participated in NPC formal recruitment and NPC informal recruitment. Not only do we follow NPC guidelines the president of our sorority is also the NPC President.

PnguinTrax,
I think that you are kind of generalizing locals. We alway do just fine going through recruitment with the nationals. Actually we usually get more girls then they all do put together.

At my school there would be no point to advertise in the newspaper or to put flyers around campus...nobody reads anything. It has been done several times in the past and it was wasted time.

Why should local groups be left out when they are willing to comply with NPC guidelines?

If the local group is willing to both compete with and follow the guidelines of the NPC groups on campus, there is no reason they should be excluded. What I was doing was offering an explanation of why that particular independent group might be prohibited from participating in campus formal recruitment.

thanks everyone, for the input, yeah they was our school does things we locals don't participate in greek week as well as formal rush and stuff like that. lIke AOX81 said, most college kids really don't read their school newletters and paper. But we do advertise a lot. Thanks Pnguin T., we are going to try having the meeting thing first and see how that goes http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif
Thanks everybody

DGPhoney,

Sorry it took so long but I e-mailed you with some of the ideas that we have used in the past. Hope they work out for you.

I wish I could help, but at ECU a local would not make it with the NPC groups.

I guess, it all depends on the campus and the type of NPC chapters on campus.

I would say, practice makes perfect. My chapter is new and we have been preparing for MONTHS. When Potential New Members go house to house, they want to see the same caliber of organization, but older chapters have YEARS under their belts and that is what makes it tough.

Keep us posted and Good Luck!

the thing is my chapter is the oldest on campus...so we acually have advantage , that is one of the things I want to emphasize for rush...what do u guys think of this tshirt idea: On the front of the shirt: LYLAS
( love u like a sister ) on the back: what more could u ask for? We thought the acronim would be eye catching..tell me if it works before I print up the shirts...thanks in advance everyone, this web site is a great help!

When I say "years under their belts" I mean years of Recruitment.

It's all about what the group of PNMs are looking for. The intrests, hobbies, and personalities vary from girl to girl and year to year. I just think it would be hard to compare local benifits and national, so you will have to sell hard and personally connect to have an advatage.

Like I said at my school, that's where my point of view is from. A local would have a hard time because PNMs would go to 9 houses that can offer certain things and then a local who would be obviosuly different.

When is Recruitment? I would ask for help from a NPC group for ideas to prepare, they have experience and an edge to tell you what has worked and what hasn't. Informal and Formal Recruitment are 2 different events, so if you haven't done it, it could be hard to adjust.

Like I said before, Good Luck!

The shirt idea is cute if that is the norm. ECU has cocky shirts:

You've been picked by the best(aopi)
Why be humble when your Queen of the Jungle(adpi)
If your going to be Greek, why not a Godess(azd)
Only the best get crowned (zta)
And so on...
