Commitment
This is a question posed at all locals(First off Hi everyone) Anyway, as a local do you find it hard to get people to commit Especially newer orgs, do u find people who are commited at first and then totally lose interest or hope for the cause? Just wondering what everyone thinks on the subject , and is there a special way you deal with this matter?

Do you mean lose interest in the actual organization or in the stuff the organization does?

Sorry I must have been ranting when I wrote the first post, cause it's kinda vague. But i mean when people lose interest in the actual org. Just recently I guess I was just paying closer attention to things, and I have seen in some locals but I guess it's every org, that some people lose interest, like they start full force, but then later on, it's sagging pretty low on the scale kinda thing.Especially in newer orgs, people seem to be all about it and then sometimes the org crashes. I was just wondering what people think cause I have even seen this is bigger national groups.

I think that every organization has their highs and lows, but yes, I know what you mean about losing interest. I have to say that for us it is all going really well- even when people do start to become less enthusiastic it is really just a phase and we are back on track in no time http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/redface.gif) Bringing up new ideas or anything other than the same old material discussed in meetings/ different events with different people are some ways to spark interest again. Especially when you are just getting started it is easy to come up with new ideas b/c of allll the work and planning it requires.

I see what you mean...and can totally understand. We even have a pledge class of like seven and none of them are arouund! So what do you do? We have tried everything, shorter meetings, more social and stuff, we have a good turnout most times and are in no way close to closing, but it can be difficult, especially when people are all gung ho during their rush and pledge.

Following up on what Localsoroities said.....
we have started to schedule meetings for like Friday nights, early, then do something social afterwards, since most people go out on Friday nights and that way you always have people to go downtown with, etc. But if one week we decide to have a meeting on like a Sunday afternoon then the plan is: Meeting: 1hr, afterwards go bowling, go play pool, etc. Everyone is together, there is no meeting burn-out (b/c believe me, we have had meetings go for like 4hrs!) and that can strengthen our bond! We also volunteer for the local 24-hr telethon, working the 11pm-7 am shift, that makes people talk more and get to know each other more! Plus we are planning a camping trip-weekend this year! As a President who knows about the "ups and downs" of sisters commiting to thier organization; and the feeling that "hey! i think this is great, why can't people spend as much time as I do on making this work?!" I really hope that the frustration you are feeling if temporary! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif ------------------ Sarah Sister Lots-a-Heart, #9 President, Iota Beta Chi Sorority http://welcome.to/iotabetachi |
