Justice in America
|
We talked about that in law school, pretty ridiculous. Kind of like the title of this thread.

Why was it ridiculous? Because I object to people spelling America with KKK? How absurd of me.
|
that is an appalling story. WOW. Unbelievable.
|
Where is there a reason to the title of this thread? There is absolutely nothing racial about this case.
Statutory rape is stupid in some cases. Ask my (white) high school classmate who did time because of it. They were the idiots who videotaped it. |

I think there probably is some element of race here. However, to be fair there are a lot of non-minority kids with similar stories. This is a story because of the bright future he had. There is another case about a kid getting 10 years in FL for stealing a 6 pack of beer. I dunno what race he is, though.

Similar to the Marcus Dixon case, also in Georgia. His conviction was reversed in 2004, maybe there's hope for this kid too.
I didn't know someone could go on trial for statutory rape without the "victim" pressing charges. |
Oh, I didn't notice this was different from the Dixon case. I'll have to go back and read the article.
|
This is all sorts of messed up. Another reason I don't necessarily agree with mandatory minimums.
And OMG what is up with these girls? |
Good job with the title of the thread.

A race element isn't "required" for these statutory rape cases to receive the sentencing and outcome they receive. However, the race element does feed off of public perception and stereotypes to add fuel to the fire. |
