2007 Academy Awards
I'm surprised I haven't seen a thread on this one already. Any thoughts? Predictions? Do you care? ;)

Best Movie
Letters to Iwo Jima Best Actress Will: Helen Mirren Should: Meryl Streep or Kate Winslet Best Actor Forest Whitaker Best Supporting Actress Will: Cate Blanchett Should: Jennifer Hudson Best Supporting Actor Eddie Murphey Best Director Will: Clint Eastwood Should: Paul Greengrass (United 93) FYI: The reason I "say" this is because I thought United 93 was a great movie, yes it is incredibly hard to watch. I think it's one of those movies, you watch once and then probably never again. It's very hard to watch. Not to say that Letters to Iwo Jima isn't an amazing movie, because I'm sure it is (and would like to see it). I just kind of think that because Letters has got great reviews and Clint has won before that it's kind of like a "shoe in". The good thing is that every category BUT Best Actor/Actress, Movie (and possibly supporting actor/actress) are critiqued by "masters" in the field. The categories I mentioned are voted upon by members of the academy, so basically it becomes a "popularity" contest and who you personally liked the best, whether they were in fact the best. |
My Wish List

BEST PICTURE
The Departed The Queen Babel My Pick: Little Miss Sunshine Will Win:Letters From Iwo Jima BEST ACTRESS My Pick (Might Win): Helen Mirren for The Queen Meryl Streep for The Devil Wears Prada Judi Dench for Notes On A Scandal Penelope Cruz for Volver Kate Winslet for Little Children BEST ACTOR My Pick: Peter O'Toole for Venus Will Win: Forest Whitaker for The Last King of Scotland Will Smith for The Pursuit of Happyness Leonardo DiCaprio for Blood Diamond Ryan Gosling for Half Nelson BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS Will Win: Jennifer Hudson for Dreamgirls Cate Blanchett for Notes on a Scandal My Pick: Abigail Breslin for Little Miss Sunshine Adrianna Barraza for Babel Rinko Kikuchi for Babel BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR Don't care, and don't have a clue. Eddie Murphy for Dreamgirls Jackie Earle Haley for Little Children Alan Arkin for Little Miss Sunshine Mark Wahlberg for The Departed Djimon Hounsou for Blood Diamond |
My wish list:
Best Picture: The Departed (And I hope Marty finally gets his Oscar...I mean seriously...the man is a great director) Actress: Judi Dench or Helen Mirren Supporting actress: Cate Blanchett Actor: Leo Di Caprio (He should have been nominated for The Departed, he was great...and I've disliked most of his movies in the past.) Supporting Actor: Djimon Hounsou or Marky Mark. Am I allowed to say how thrilled I am that Beyonce didn't get a nomination? She really wasn't that good in Dreamgirls...and come to think of it, the movie was ok, but I can't say that I was disappointed that it wasn't nominated. |
it's my opinion (and it is part of what i do for a living--predicting hollywood stuff)--that Whitaker, Mirren, Hudson and Murphy pretty much have their Oscars sewn up. Mirren especially. The other 3 might be overtaken as time goes on, but I doubt it.
Best Pic is a race between Babel and The Departed with Little Miss Sunshine having a small chance of pulling off a Crash like upset. |
Departed wins Best Picture. I didn't see Lettters from Iwo Jima......but Flags of our Fathers was extremely average, can't see Letters being that much better.
