Getting A Chapter Involved In Intramurals
I know this is definately not a topic that pops up very much around here but I'm the new Intramural Chair for my chapter. In the past it has been very hard to get the sisters to actually show up to practices and games...even with points assigned. We've never been the best at intramurals so I think maybe thats part of it. Anybody got any ideas on how to get the chapter involved in intramural sports (especially with Greek week coming up!) or how to reward the players that show up without spending a lot of money (my budget is very minimal).

Make it a sisterhood event with the non-players coming along and cheering for you guys.
We never did practices for our intramurals though, and our team was pretty "hard core." Well, you know, IM hardcore :p Play co-ed sports? Then you need fewer girls, but playing with guys is fun. Don't try to force yourselves into sports you're not good at. Play one or two that people WANT to play, but don't sign up if you're not going to do it. If people do sign up, fines if they miss a game? Your chapter is paying for the intramural fee (ours did) and it's wasted if you don't play. It's rather extreme though. |
Just don't do intramurals...
I think we probably register 3 teams a year total for intramurals and that's including the mini-golf tournament. |
Yeah, the only thing i'll do is sorority golf tournaments. Kappa Klassic is always a good one.

Before you sign a team up, ask the chapter whether they want to do it, and if they do, ask for volunteers. Don't sign up a team if people don't want to do it.

Well, I think they have a point. If no one wants to participate and you have to pull teeth to get them to do so, why would you even want to bother with a team? Is it a campus/Greek system "must"?
