Connie Chung is Greek?

I have a high school teacher (an AOII alum) who claims that Connie Chung rushed at Maryland and was initiated at some NPC group (not AOII). Can anyone confirm this? Since Connie went to school in the 60s, some groups would still have had exclusionary clauses, though not all.

Connie Chung interview with Vince Vaughn re: movie, "Old School"

CHUNG: The whole thing is a hit.

So, did you ever belong to a fraternity when you were a kid?

VAUGHN: No, I never did. I only went to college, Connie -- I went to a community college for two weeks in Illinois, CLC, College of Lake County. We called it college of last chance.

(LAUGHTER)

VAUGHN: I went there for two weeks and I dropped out. And then when I moved to L.A., my parents were like, you should really take some classes and have something to fall back on. And I was there two weeks at Santa Monica Junior College. And I got an audition the same day I had a test and I never went back to that.

But if I was in college, I don't think I personally would have been in a fraternity.

CHUNG: Right. I wouldn't belong to a sorority either. I might belong to a fraternity. Bunch of dudes around, not so bad.

VAUGHN: You live in the fast lane, Connie. I can't stop that.

Yeah, everytime I see a paternity test episode of Maury (which is almost everytime I turn it on), I just think "poor poor Connie"

Oh goodness! I know that college. When I went to high school in Illinois, we joked about that school.

When I was at Maryland I remember hearing about both Connie Chung and Goldie Hawn (who only attended for a short while). I remember hearing about one of them pledging but not going through with it. I wish I could remember which one. Anyway, I think if either had been an initiated member at UMD I would have remembered that.

...for what it's worth.

I think you misread above. She says she did not belong.

I believe Goldie pledged AXO but was not initiated.

CZAXOTerp 03-09-2007 06:27 PM

I went to U of Md, and would have known is Goldie Hawn had pledge AXO- she did not.
I know that AXO did not have exclusionary clauses at that time because my friend and sister's mom was an AXO in the mid-late 60's and they are Japanese-American.

I always heard that Connie Chung had been in Tri-delt- but it was never really confirmed.

Connie has become a much more involved Maryland alum in the last few years and I was introduced to her about a year ago- but didn't think to ask if she had been in a chapter or not.

RE Goldie Hawn

From what I have heard she pledged the Beta Pi chapter at Washington College but was not initiated

RE: Goldie Hawn

I'm pretty sure Goldie went to American University in DC. I've heard her say in numerous interviews on TV that she went there but didn't graduate. Wikipedia confirms that statement (although I KNOW Wikipedia is not always correct--don't flame please!).

aggieAXO 03-10-2007 01:00 PM

Yea thinking about this morning it was the Beta Rho chapter (American) not the Beta Pi one.

AnatraAmore 03-10-2007 01:48 PM

According to both of the biographies I saw, she went to U-Maryland...

Here's one of them: http://www.bookrags.com/biography/connie-chung/
