Sigma Nu will recharter at MTSU (title edited by Kevin)

There are a lot of people talking because MTSU found nothing and Sigma Nu says they found 15 incidents. Who knows. It's sad because I knew a lot of their brothers a few years ago and they were awesome guys. I find it seriously hard to believe that this happened. Of all the fraternities, these guys were one of the nicest and best.

They're kicked out of their house and their nationals won't even show them the official report?

Ummmm hell no.

ZetaPhi708 01-19-2007 07:06 PM

Just visited their website and it is still up....

They won lots of awards...one of the top fraternities at MTSU...

Sad, very sad really.....

Kind of strange that MTSU's investigation found no hazing violations but the "closed report" issue bothers me....In the news video, it stated that SN will only release the report with a court order.

A take off of the old saying:

Live by the rules or die by the rules.

None of us have been unscathed by chapters who do not follow either the Organizations or the Schools rules and regulations.

Sad but true.

I was shocked to hear this. I've always been really impressed with those guys as well as their adviser. I really hate to see this happen.

Plenty of chapters get away with things that other chapter would get into trouble for.

Sorry, its true.

Tippiechick;
Times and people change.
While the house, the chapter, the Brothers you knew were "awesome" all it takes is one or two cycles to change matters.

And yes I am speaking from experience. My own chapter.:(

Mac, I don't know. Is MTSU considered a "southern" school? I'd think this would at least qualify as a warning shot across the bow for SEC chapters to reform their pledge programs.

If indeed MTSU is considered "southern," and this chapter is top-10 if not top-5 for Sigma Nu, I'm not so sure that the old rule of overlooking the problems at certain chapters is likely to continue.

That said, I have no idea what went on. I hope these guys are able to work something out with HQ. I'd really hate to see them really be gone.

It looks like they will be allowed to come back but with colony status..

That is from the newsletter they publish on campus.

Kevin 07-08-2007 08:38 AM

That is really great news.

It is.

Good luck to them. I think that being a colony can be tougher than being a chapter.

Hopefully, they'll fix the perceived problems and move ahead...

Tom Earp 07-08-2007 01:09 PM

If SN is Like LXA when there is a problem, hopefuly it will be taken care of within the Fraternity before everyone one else wants to get envolved.

This sounds like the case and Colleges do appreciate that fact!

Congratulations to them and welcome back!:D

Wow. That is just incredible. Were they even off campus for a year? I for one am very happy for them; it struck me as odd when they were booted - because the whole time the university leadership said they did nothing wrong.

According to the article, the allegations came to light in December 2006 and the newsletter I found on the MTSU website was from around March.

Their website is still up but unchanged. I wonder about the house tho....a colony with a house?
