Letters Jerseys
Here at UCF fraternity/sorority lettered jerseys are a big thing. They're given to littles by bigs in exchange for paddles for the most part. I was at an NIC event (Futures Quest) recently and noticed a lot of the guys there had no idea what I was talking about when I asked them about their jerseys. They all thought I meant IM jerseys. I also met some Betas from University of South Florida that had similar jerseys to the ones we wear. The jerseys we wear have our letters on the front, family number on the back, nickname given to us by our bigs, and on the sleeves are pledge class and chapter letters. So I was wondering if this is just a Florida thing or a southeast thing or what?

my soror is located in ny and some girls have jerseys- it's not really that big of a thing but they do look cool. when lils cross we usually give them jackets or shirts with letters on them. the jackets have the same stuff as the jerseys on them so i guess it's just a matter of preference. most of the girls in my chapter have jackets

At Baylor, we have jerseys for the sororities, but I don't think the fraternities have them.

Jerseys are NF.

At my OPA chapter (at Georgia Tech) we do jerseys, but there's nothing on the back of them--no number or pledge name or anything. They're also not required (we try to keep pledging costs down), but "strongly encouraged." The social sororities on campus all have jerseys as well, from what I've seen. The fraternity I spend the most time at has jerseys also; I don't know about the others.
Hoodies & totebags with stitched letters are also very popular here among all Greeks. :) |
It's mostly a FL thing, even though quite a few other places outside of FL have them to, but those jerseys usually have just the letters on front and chapter name on the sleeve. GreekUnique pretty much made it popular around here with the whole design also with the big's name inside the heart on the sleeve along with the symbols. GreekUnique also has a store out by USF which is why jerseys are popular at USF and UTampa. I know jerseys are popular at UWF and not popular at FSU...don't know about the other schools in FL though.

Can someone post a link to a picture of these jerseys? I can't even begin to imagine how these would look. We only did like party shirts and hoodies at my school, I've never seen a jersey before.

Jersey picture! (I'm third from the left :) )
Ours don't have anything other than the stitched letters on the front. Traditionally they had other stuff, but it's been a while since that was done. http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q...hiAlphaTau.jpg |
Ours are a little different--they're made from some kind of thick cotton material and I think they're also scotchgarded like crazy (when they're new, they feel kind of plasticky). All the chapters here put names or nicknames across the top of the back, but ADPi includes a number on theirs (family number? member number? calling ZXAlum, I don't remember!). Nothing on the sleeve, though, but most have a band of stripey stuff between the main part and the sleeve.
Here's a bunch of us at Fall Parties (the first recruitment event here): http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y25...f/IMG_2270.jpg And here's the mini-jersey I made my "roommate" for Halloween (I had planned to go as a big purple bunny, ha ha): http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y25...f/IMG_2257.jpg |
