Informal Recruitment
Hi! I'm new here, and I thought I would ask all of you a question.
I'm currently going through informal recruitment for one sorority on campus, and there are 3 events this week. It is all very casual, and we can stay as little or as long as we want. The last event is on Saturday. I'm confused about how the whole bid process works during informal. Is there like a whole "bid day" on Sunday? Or will they give us our bids that night? I'm very confused about how all of this is going to work. I think that every girl invited initially can come to all 3 events. Please help??? Thanks!:) |

My advice-go to every event. Other than that, no one here will know when bids are handed out. |
The Panhellenic Advisor will be able to answer your questions. They are good questions and the staff in Student Life should be able to give you specific answers.
GO BEARS! ;) |

Informal is just that--informal. Different sororities hand out bids differently. Chances are, you'll get a call after Saturday or you may even get a bid on Saturday--it's all up to the sorority.
It gets a little hairy when we have girls pursuing infomal recruitment in different rooms when another group decides to hand out bids earlier than us, but that's precisely that--the sororities set their own schedules. Good luck from one Bear to a different Bear! :) |

Mercer, keep in mind too that informal works a little bit differently than formal (if you're familiar with the process)...while in formal recruitment there's generally a high placement rate of women who complete the process, this is not necessarily the case with informal. Sororites don't have a quota in informal recruitment like they do in formal and therefore don't have to take any set number of women. There's really no way to tell whether or not you're going to be extended a bid, or even to predict how many women going through informal will receive bids. I'm sorry if you already know this, but I just wanted to reiterate since all this informal stuff might seem a little confusing if you weren't familiar with the process. Good luck! |
OK so here's an update on my week. I went through informal recruitment this past week, and tonight I got invited back to another event at the same sorority. Is that a good thing to get invited back to an event? I'm completely clueless about this whole process.
How does your sororities and chapters do informal recruitment? |
Mercer, what do you think?
Informal recruitment usually consists of a few events. They wouldn't invite you back to the next event if they didn't like you. |
Ok so I went through the last event last night, and everything went great! :) How soon should I know something? I know that each chapter at each school does thing differently, but typically, how long does it take to find out whether you're in after informal recruitment?

No one here can tell you (or would tell you if they knew). Sorry kiddo, you're going to have to wait this one out like the rest of us did :D It's part of the fun.
|
Yeah, it could be today or in a week... there's no way to know how they do things :)
Glad you had fun! :) |
Okay...another update
Apparently this chapter's informal lasts for two weeks, because I just got my invitation to pref night this friday!!!!!!!:):):) I'm very excited...I really like these girls, and I feel like I could call them my sisters! I'll keep you guys updated! Any last minute advice??? |
That sounds very positive!
Have a great time -- ask them any questions you have about time commitments, financial responsibilities, etc. (Sometimes the expectations are not reviewed as thoroughly during informal.) Let them know that you were thrilled to be invited to pref. Keep us posted! GO BEARS! |
Yay for you!
Ditto to the above as well and if you have any other questions, ask them! |
you go girl!! can't wait to hear what you think of pref, night. please come back and tell us!!
(fingers crossed) |
