Book Drive
From Pi Beta Phi's website (www.pibetaphi.org):
In honor of the Cat in the Hat's 50th Birthday, Pi Beta Phi has partnered with First Book to raise 50,000 new books for children in need through the Fraternity's Day of Service Virtual Book Drive. For the small price of $5 -- the cost of a latte -- you can provide a child in need with new books. Anyone can donate, and we need all the help we can get in brewing a full pot . The book drive ends March 2, 2007. For every donation you make to First Book, you will be entered to win one of 100 $5 Starbucks gift cards!* First Book is an award-winning international nonprofit with a single mission: to give children from low-income families the opportunity to read and own their first new books. To learn more about First Book, visit them online. *********** Not from the website, but from me: This is an easy way to make a difference for literacy -just donate using the links to the website. You can use your credit card, and your chapter or alum club will get credit for your donation. |

I guess our HQs all think that sorority women = expensive coffee.:) |
They've made it a coffee theme, like "fill the cup" and of course a chance to win a Starbucks giftcard. The website blurb actually started out with something like, "Instead of spending it on coffee, donate $5 and get a caffeine-free start to your day."
Umm, no, thanks. I would end up throwing a book at a kid instead of donating it to him if I had to go without caffeine. I'll make a donation AND drink my coffee, thanks. Maybe if we're uncaffeinated, they think we'll hit the "Donate $500" button instead of "$5". Still, very good program as part of our Fraternity Service Day. |
