MLK Day and Google
Can someone explain to me why google's holiday picture for MLK Jr Day is of some kids double dutching? Couldn't they come up with something better?
and i am sure i posted this 10 minutes ago and its gone now! so i am reposting |
Awww, I thought it was cute. Like the dream has been achieved or something.
|
I kind of like how they have it...a hispanic and a white person turning the rope and a black and asian jumping. Everyone is working together in harmony. That may not be reality yet - and it might never be - but that was MLK's mission.

eta: oops, I went to google.ca and there it was. :D |
Last year's had MLK's face as part of the logo. Guess they wanted something different this year.

That's the worst.

yeah i dont enjoy the kids jumping rope. there are better ways to show everyone being faux-harmonious in our "racially integrated" world.
and sure, kids of different races play together with little to no issue, its just when we get older and people start telling us that we cant play together because were different. |
I thought the idea was cute. But how do you know that the kid to the far left is Hispanic? A Hispanic person can have pretty much any coloring and features.

When you got the White kid, the Black kid, and the Asian kid and there's one more kid, my guess is that the kid's Hispanic and not Mongolian. |

Several GC newbies have in the past, left posts that implied that I was a man. I suppose if you weren't here for my original screenname or haven't bothered to read any of my posts, I suppose I can see how people would think that way. Usually the cultural lessons are saved for those who think it's okay to have an Island-themed social/rush event with Hawaiian punch and plastic leis and slap the "luau" label on it. Oh, and if you want to really know what happened and how the American government stole Hawai`i from the kanaka maoli, feel free to ask me because you won't find that in your history books. ;) |
