Northwestern (Evanston) IFC Recruitment 2007

The January 9, 2007 Daily Northwestern online has some results for IFC recruitment. Not all houses have reported numbers, and some have bids outstanding. Those reported are

DU - 28
Sig Ep - 30
DTD - 30
AEPi - 21
Phi Psi - 20
Pike - 23
Sigma Chi - 15 (some bids still outstanding, reportedly)

In some cases the article mentions the previous year's numbers for comparison. See:

Great job DU! Way to show a big increase from last year!

Is Kappa Sig no longer on campus there? I remember rooming with their president at a national conference a few years ago, I didn't know anything had happened to the chapter.

It's not listed on the national site, i know there have been several charters pulled in the past few years

Unfortunately the chapter at Northwestern was closed a few years ago. I think some of the posts in the following thread mention the reason(s), which included incidents at a fraternity party at the Shedd Aquarium:

Thanks for noticing!

Gentlemen,

On behalf of the NU DU's, I thank you and will pass your praise on to the undergrads.

FYI- I have good contacts with Kappa Sig, and I believe they will be coming back soon. They were a strong house on campus.

Wow, from the look of the houses, they need to get a lot of members!

Amazing houses. How good are they inside as did not see any web sites on N U. thread.

Maybe when I get time, will check.

wow. you're right.

What is up with that? Most of the greek houses look like ginormous dorm buildings.

Would like to point out that SAE National HQ is located at NW.
If ever in the area, it is well worth a visit even if not a Brother.

Sigma Chi Headquarters is also in Evanston, Illinois. It is a very built up area being by Chicago, so most of the Greek houses may look like dorms. It is an amazing campus to visit. The first time I visited, after years of seeing a picture of our HQ house, I couldn't believe that it was among tall buildings (as the pictures I've seen make it look like a southern style mansion). Although it is a really big HQ, it is a very built up/congested area. Definitely a cool campus to visit! Not being familiar with the area, it was really hard to find the Greek houses, but some letters were on "dorm-like buildings".

At NU

The Fraternity Houses all have the same look because of how the university had all the fraternities build at the same time and had them built according to what they would have liked. If you look at the sorority houses in the south end of campus, it is the same type of thing. In the case of the sororities, they don't look like dorms nearly as much. Also, the houses change over from one organization to another when one leaves - another comes in... There are some fraternities that have actual houses, like Zeta Beta Tau and Theta Chi.

There are not really normal houses for the sororities, some do have "unofficial" houses off campus that are owned by the members of that org - some fraternities also have this.

I live in a small dorm in the first fraternity quad that most people think is a fraternity, so it makes for good fun in the beginning of the year when freshmen stop by. We had a large group of people waiting outside the first friday of new student week waiting to get in for what they thought was a party. Really, it was just my friends and I meeting up to go to a party. Needless to say, we let the kids come in for a sec thinking they were meeting someone and found out that they were already drunk - then sent them back out.

It is all just because all the buildings in the fraternity quads look the same and a few organizations do not have large signs out in the front of the building.

We did official college visits to both Northwestern and Notre Dame. I loved Northwestern, both academics and campus architecture. The college applicant liked NU but preferred Notre Dame. Ultimately both were eliminated from the list due to their cold climate location.:)

I too almost went there, to their journalism school. Ended up staying closer to home, but I was a big fan of the school.
