Vaccines from aborted babies

I had never heard this before and figured this may spark a discussion among you wonderfully intelligent and resourceful greeks!

The CDC is aware that some, but not all, vaccines are made from human cell-line cultures, and some of these cell lines originated from aborted fetal tissue, obtained from legal abortions. Cell lines generated from a single fetal tissue source are used--vaccine manufacturers obtain human cell lines from FDA-certified cell banks that use aborted babies.

See the CDC's own website:

Is there a question somewhere in your post, or were you just passing along information?

I think this is supposed to be an OH NOES TEH HORROR debate about the ethics and morality of using aborted babies for vaccines.

I guess I'll throw in my $.02 and say that I don't agree with abortion, except in extreme cases (that's another thread, though) - but if the baby has already been aborted, it might as well not be completely in vain.

How convenient...you forgot to mention this part:

Quote:

Vaccine Safety
Use of Human Cell Cultures
in Vaccine Manufacturing

CDC's responsibility is to ensure that the U.S. population is adequately vaccinated with safe and effective vaccines to prevent sickness, disability and death. The CDC does not manufacture vaccines. The Food and Drug Administration licenses vaccines for use in the United States.

CDC is aware that some, but not all, vaccines are made from human cell-line cultures, and some of these cell lines originated from aborted fetal tissue, obtained from legal abortions in the 1960's. No new fetal tissue is needed to produce cell lines to make these vaccines, now or in the future. Fetal tissue is not used to produce vaccines; cell lines generated from a single fetal tissue source are used--vaccine manufacturers obtain human cell lines from FDA-certified cell banks.
Some vaccines, not all, and it's not occurring now, so take your controversial 'zomg they're human too teh horror' shock thread and cram it.

There's no such thing as an aborted baby. If it was aborted, it's not a baby.

That is a discussion that is completely unwinnable and no one is going to change anyone else's minds.

I don't think there's any such thing as a "winnable" discussion.

The original poster used inflammatory language in the thread title. It's worth pointing that out somewhere in whatever discussion goes on here.

Valid, but you did so in an equally inflammatory way ;)

Not enough people are following this thread for it to be a good flame war anyway.

No, it was a clump of cells.

That just happened to be taking the shape of *gasp* a human baby.

That is, before they were rudely interrupted.

LOL. Babies are great, but I never know what to do with the leftovers.

ISUKappa 01-05-2007 01:50 PM

Knowing kappa2 and some of her health history, I highly doubt she meant this to be an inflammatory thread.

However, there is already a discussion on Stem Cell research from aborted fetuses so this thread is really unnecessary.
