Local Music Fraternities?

Greetings Brothers,

As a newbie to this site I want to start by saying this site is GREAT for expanding communication in the fraternity world!

As a member of the national Collegiate Recruitment Committee I am in the process of putting together research to help with colonization. What I am working on is a directory of all the music greeks in the country - active, inactive, expelled, suspended, local, national, etc....so as to help target schools that are ripe for colonization.

This post focuses on local music greeks, that is music greek organizations with only 1 chapter and no national organization.

Here is a very incomplete list of what I have:

Lambda Kappa, Carthage College (expelled PMA chapter now local/coed)
1-5-1, Hampton University
Nu Kappa Epsilon, College of William & Mary (national now?)
Mu Upsilon Alpha, Rutgers U. (former KKPsi chapter)

If anyone knows of any others please let me know! Also - here is a list of all the national music greeks I have found:

Sinfonia = Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia – http://www.sinfonia.org/
SAI = Sigma Alpha Iota - http://www.sai-national.org/
KKPsi = Kappa Kappa Psi – http://www.kkytbs.org/kky
TBS = Tau Beta Sigma – http://www.kkytbs.org/tbs
DO = Delta Omicron - http://www.delta-omicron.org/index00.html
MPE = Mu Phi Epsilon - http://home.muphiepsilon.org/
PNE = Pi Nu Epsilon - http://www.pinuepsilon.org/
Phi Beta = Phi Beta – http://www.phibeta.com/
MBPsi = Mu Beta Psi – http://www.mubetapsi.org/
KGPsi = Kappa Gamma Psi – www.kappagammapsi.org
- national, but only 1 chapter left
PBR – Phi Buda Ruda – http://www.geocities.com/CollegePark/Field/8147/
- loose-knit drumline fraternity

If you have any additions, corrections, etc... please msg me.

Hail Sinfonia brothers!

Fraternally,
Rich Legon

One of my Alpha Brothers sent me this after I told him about this thread:

"The name of the organization is Mu Alpha Nu Honorary Choral Fraternity(MAN) and the sorority is Mu Alpha Mu (MAM). They are local honorary choral organizations that exist only at The University Of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.

UAPB does now have a chapter of Phi Mu Alpha and there are some members of MAN and MAM who share dual membership."

(Obviously he is mistaken on that last part, lol)

Welcome, Rich! Glad to have you here.

I have something tugging in my brain about another former Sinfonian chapter that is now a local, but I can't track it down. Maybe I'm simply remembering Lambda Kappa.

Locals

Back around the 90s Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, TX used to have a fraternity called Tau Upsilon Beta Alpha. It was a Tuba/Euphonium player fraternity and it only existed at SFA.

Update on Music Locals

Greetings Brothers...

After some extensive research I have a bunch of updates on music locals. I am specifically localing for groups that are more then a clique, have a ritual, pledge period, etc... Not an honorary like Pi Kappa Lambda.

Local Music Greeks (defined as only 1 chapter)

1-5-1 – local music fraternity at Hampton U. (supposedly defunct?)

Lambda Kappa = LK (coed local music greek at Carthage College – formerly the expelled Lambda Kappa chapter) - http://www3.carthage.edu/clubs/lambdakappa/

Mu Alpha = MA (male local music fraternity at Hillsdale College)
- expelled Sinfonians from the Nu Upsilon chapter there.
http://www.menofmualpha.com/

Mu Upsilon Alpha = MYA – local band fraternity at Rutgers U.
(expelled KKPsi chapter – though will be going national or defunct w/in a year)
http://www.muupsilonalpha.org

Phi Delta = PD – local coed music fraternity at the U. of West Georgia
- look at link for info (not the site, but its at least something)
(http://www.westga.edu/~stuacts/stude...zations1.shtml)

Phi Sigma = PS (local music sorority at Del Mar College)
http://www.delmar.edu/KXAlpha/Alpha.html

Phi Theta Sigma Fraternity = PTS – local coed music fraternity at Arkansas State U.
http://www.geocities.com/phi_theta_sigma/

One of these, Mu Upsilon Alpha @ Rutgers, might be going national again.

Nu Kappa Epsilon now has two chapters so I moved them to the national list.

For the complete list of national music greeks please see the top of the thread.

Many thanks for your help!

MYA Is indeed going national again. Rutgers has instituted a new rule that all greek organizations have to go national within a year, or they will not be recognized by the university. The MYA Brothers have decided to merge with Mu Beta Psi National Honorary Musical Fraternity. Mu Beta Psi was founded in 1925 on the campus of NC State University and after the merger is complete, MYA will become Pi Chapter of Mu Beta Psi.
