Deadliest year for reporters since 1994: RSF
Sad note to end the year on:
Deadliest year for reporters since 1994: RSF Sun Dec 31, 2006 1:19 PM ET By Crispian Balmer PARIS (Reuters) - Journalists suffered one of their deadliest years ever in 2006, with Iraq once again proving the most dangerous place in the world for the media to work, two media watchdogs said on Sunday. Paris-based Reporters without Borders (RSF) said at least 81 reporters and 32 media staff were killed in 2006 as a result of their jobs, saying the death toll was the highest since 1994 when scores of reporters died in the Rwandan genocide. http://today.reuters.com/news/articl...HS.xml&src=rss |
And many more were badly injured.

Brought from memory that Errol Flynn's son "Sean Flynn appeared in a few films but didn't particularly like being an actor. He switched careers and was a freelance photojournalist during the Vietnam War. He disappeared with another journalist as they followed the US Army invasion into Cambodia and both were thought to have been captured and executed by Khmer Rouge guerrillas. He is the subject of the 1981 The Clash song, "Sean Flynn." Also was a made for TV movie called "Shooters" IIRC. |

While I make a bit of fun of the media, it is a hell of a thing to go virtually into a battle zone with a camera only.
Ernie Pyle was one of the best known in WW II. Agree, if push comes to shove, you bet I would grab a weapon to protect myself and other people. Today, it can be seen that there is not respect for news media as they are kiddnaped, tortured, and killed.:o Give kudos due when and where desearved!!!! |
