Brand New To Recruitment

Hey everyone! I'm the new VP Recruitment for one of our newest chapters. Kappa Mu in Tyler had a successful first recruitment this past year, but we are under quota (as is all the chapters here) and I'm in charge of holding COB events this semester, as well as planning our recruitment for the fall.
I need help! We are so new to this, and last years was somewhat thrown together last minute! We are a "no frills" chapter and have a very limited budget. I'm open to any ideas. Anything helps!!

I'm not quite sure why you're posting in Fraternity Recruitment if you're in a sorority, but what the heck. :)

First off - "no frills" or any of the panhellenic rush rules like that shouldn't apply when it comes to COB. That's only to give chapters an equal playing field in formal rush.

That being said - don't make the mistake of trying to make COB events the same as formal rush events. Keep it CASUAL and the emphasis on conversation and getting to know the rushees. You can have a theme, or not have a theme. You can invite the rushees to attend campus events with you. The main thing to look for is women who want to be in YOUR sorority - not just A sorority.

Good luck!

Maybe it's one of those "sorority" fraternities..like Alpha Gamma Delta or Phi Mu.;)

The sororities that began the Greek System at Tyler last year were Gamma Phi Beta, Alpha Chi Omega, and Delta Gamma.

welcome to greekchat and the greek world.

you could have organized events that include the whole chapter, or you might want to break down the chapter into smaller groups of 4 or 5 girls each(you decide who is in what group) and hold each group responsible for inviting two or three pnms to do something with them: go out for coffee or ice cream, go out for a meal, go to a sporting event or a movie-you get the picture.

sometimes breaking the chapter into smaller groups makes the recruitment process seem less intimidating to the pnm. they are not meeting a huge amount of girls at first. it is especially important that each group invite 2 or 3 girls so that it is not 4 or 5 sisters to 1 pnm. after the groups have had a couple of activities with their pnms, if the groups think the pnms would fit in, you could hold a big event so that the whole chapter could meet these girls.

does the greek life office have pnms sign up for cob or is it up to each sorority to find girls to recruit? if you have a list, that makes the job a little easier, but don't limit yourself to the list. hopefully some of the sisters know girls from class or other organizations who they would like to invite to some events and get to know better.

how far is your chapter from total? if you can reach total before the end of spring semester, you will be sitting pretty for fall recruitment.

Say what?

I was sure I put this in the right spot! But hey it was like 2 in the morning when I wrote it. Forgive me!

On campus, each sorority is responsible for recruiting girls to their chapter. We're advertising all over campus, but we want some really fun and unique events to have girls come to. Just keep this in mind; Greek Life is all really new to UT Tyler, so people are very apprehensive when it comes to getting involved.

Any ideas on COB events or for our formal recruitment would be awesome. Thanks!
