Let's talk about badges...I want to order an alum badge. I'm not sure how to go about this. To make a long story short, I haven't, nor will I go through Order but I am now considered an alumna of Sigma Kappa.
I am looking at the sisters only side of the website. I can see all the beautiful badges (that I want so desperately, they're gorgeous!) but nowhere to order an alumna pin. This thread is now about gloating over how gorgeous our badge is, and helping me figure out alumnae stuff. Also, I got it right, right? It is alumna? :D |
I think the chapter has to order badges for alumnae. (Not sure if it has to be your own chapter, but I think you order them off the same form as pledge pins.)

Are you near any chapter? You could go through Order with their seniors. Since it's the "Order of the Triangle" Alumna pin you're supposed to go through Order to get it. I've seen articles/emails from HQ where they encourage collegiate and alumnae chapters to work together for women who did not have the opportunity to go through it.

While we're talking about it, I've always wondered...do you wear the Order pin with your badge or do you only wear the Order pin? When I went with another advisor to Founders' Day she wore the Order pin & I wore my badge, and she made a comment that since we're not active anymore then we don't wear our badges??? |

Centaur, you could try contacting HQ and asking them directly. Just say that you're an alum and never got a pin and you'd like to purchase one. I bet they'll be able to help (or tell you it isn't possible, one or the other)

Well, the long story is that I never got to have one semester as an active sister because of my medical problems. I've now been out of school for over a year dealing with various issues and it just doesn't look like I'll be returning anytime soon. By the time I get back, I will be a little old lady compared to the other sisters in my chapter. I decided the best decision for me was to take alum status.
I talked to my big about it (some of you may remember her, posted here as Aquastar) and she told me that I'm already considered alum, that I don't have to go through order to obtain alum status and that I could just order the badge. I am slightly uncomfortable going back to my chapter to go through order, only because I feel like the sisters I know felt I bailed on them or they don't know me. So that's the story, if you feel I shared too much on a public messageboard, I'll take this down and PM it to whoever wants to know. |
I don't feel like you shared too much! I was only an active sister for one semester (I changed schools after my first semester) but that makes you no less a sister! Believe you me, I can understand how it can be uncomfortable at times when going back because you feel like you've let someone down!
You could contact HQ to see if you can purchase the pin, although I'd take that as a second option to finding an alumnae chapter to go through the Order. |
You are not alone! I had a few pledge sisters who also had to leave school right after they were initiated for various reasons. Some of them actually did come back after a few years and went through Order. They were welcomed with open arms. It doesn't matter how long you were an "active" you are and will always be a sister. :)

I would definitely encourage you to try to go through Order with a local chapter. The ceremony is beautiful and made me cry especially since my Big was President at the time, my Grandbig was EVP, and I had about 3 generations of great grandbigs attend the ceremony.

thats right! youre not alone! i left my college and went back to the community college instead because i absolutely HATE unlv, so i went to alum status too. never getting through Order either. :) |
I am going to ditto with the going through Order. Even if you went back through at your original chapter, most of the girls are going to be unaware of who you are, not resentful of you for leaving. And once they learn that why you're there I can't imagine they'd be offended or resentful. If I was an active and an alum came back just to go through Order I'd think SK meant a lot to her.
(But I'm an all around nice person... no really!) And I'm sure an Alum chapter would love to do it as well. My new chapter was so excited just to have me there for the Christmas party, and I was the youngest one there by a good 10 years! (The lady I was next to was from the pledge class of 84. The year I was BORN :p) |
