How Do You Pronounce...
I know, I know this is a crazy question, but I am dying to find out...
How do you pronounce Aeropostale? (You know, it's the clothing store in the mall. ;)) Alright, laugh if you must, but this has been bothering me. My friends in NY pronounce it "air-roe-poe-STAHL" (I did my best with the phonetic spelling). But everyone down here in MD/DC pronounces it "air-roe-POS-tuhl". I mentioned the store's name in a conversation the other day, and I was corrected by *several* people. They told me, emphatically, that it's not pronounced "air-roe-poe-STAHL" . This bothered me so much that I called one of their stores here in MD, but I didn't get an answer. Please help me...this is really bugging me! Girlwithemail |
I am in DC and I say it the first way you mentioned.

Thanks, Senusret...:D
I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said *everyone in MD/DC*...but surely everyone around me calls it air-roe-POS-tuhl! |

I don't know the correct way but Pinkpop says Aero-pos-talay. I could be very wrong... I have a habit of messing up store names.. My first time in NC I saw a Chick-fil-a and pronounced it Chick-filla until I was corrected.

My friends and I always pronounced it the way you do, here in IL, but after talking to a guy who worked there, he says it is indeed pronounced the way your first pronunciation is put. It's French, for "air-mail," so I guess that's where the accent differs. We never learned that, though.

I copied this off a Yahoo!Answers page:
"Best Answer - Chosen By Voters Its French...its their way of saying Airmail for when they send letters and all. Of course presently its also a line of very nice clothes and designer hoodies in the US, the correct pronunciation is: 'AIR - UH - PUH - STAHL'"" |
Thanks, everybody!!! I feel much better now...:p
