USF chapter closed?
|
Are they sure it wasn't UNF, I know they just got closed recently. USF is a strong chapter, perhaps the best on the USF campus. This is what was told to me by my friend who was a ZTA TLC and help colonize ZTA on their campus.

TAMPA - The Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity shut down its USF chapter this week, citing hazing and alcohol violations that could get some of the students suspended from school.
A letter the fraternity's international headquarters sent to the University of South Florida this week states that the student members "have chosen to behave in a manner inconsistent with our brotherhood's values and ideals, and the current members showed no hope for change." About 70 USF students belong to the fraternity, one of the oldest on campus. University officials are evicting the 22 who live in the on-campus Greek house after their final exams next week. more... http://www.tbo.com/news/metro/MGB0O3Q0GVE.html |
Same sort of thing that happened at Fullerton.

I'm actually suprised because I hadn't heard about any issues with them.

Check Greek Life Thread.
Two Brothers from USF posted on it. From some of the posts I am as surprised as we all are and also the Brothers of the Zeta. |
Thanks for the tip, Tom. That kid's post said a lot, although he probably didn't think it did.
Saying they didn't do anything that wasn't done to them was a dead give-away. I can smell hazing a mile away. ZAX, Jono |
I agree!
30 years in this business does that to a guy! Quote:

Maybe you misunderstood me, THERE WAS NO HAZING, all that we do is teach about our history and the Christian ideals and teachings that our fraternity represents. Quizzing our new guys and teaching them about our symbols, our code of arms, bravery and chivalry, and ideals is NOT HAZING. What the fraternity represents and what our ritual stands for does help you grow as a person, it stands for everything the Christian religion teaches. All we do with our new guys is teach them what the pedagogues teaches. Sorry to be so blunt but I just don't understand where you are coming. “All that we do is what is done to us,” is simply stating what the fraternity teaches, not any form of hazing? There is a section in the pedagogues that states very clear what hazing consists of and our chapter does not. HAZING WAS ABOLISHED IN 1972 and we did oblige by that policy. In Z.A.X., /\M 673 WE BELIEVE IN LABMDA CHI ALPHA AND ITS TRADITIONS PRINCIPLES AND IDEALS, YOU CAN TAKE OUR CHARTER, TAKE OUR HOUSE, SLANDER US IN PUBLICATIONS, TELL YOUR LIES.... BUT YOU WILL NEVER TAKE OUR PURE HEARTS AND BROTHERLY LOVE.... LONG LIVE LAMBDA MU, AND LXA "While we may not be able to control all that happens to us, we can control what happens inside us." While I have been following the post on GreekLife thread, it is not in the nature of the current management at IHQ or the GHZ to just close a Zeta.
Why some may ask? It is because it does hurt the bottom line of LXA, but it also hurts the availability of more new members finding out what LXA is all about. As Brother Jono said I beleive on the GreekLife thread, LXA outlawed hazing in 1972. First off, it was not done by IHQ, it was voted on by Zeta Brothers and passed. If there have been repeated problems, then IHQ has no recourse than to take matters in hand and close or censor said Zeta. One, and make that We must all understand that no matter what a Zeta does for the positive side, if there is a negative side, that outweighs it. Remeber, that each time a Zeta is closed, it is done for a very good reason and they reflect on all of us and all Greek Organizations. Granted there have been Zetas closed this year, we can only hope that in the future, there will be an opporunity to go back. |

Exactly, I am currently our High Kappa and tests are strictly forbidden. If you want to test the knowledge of your Brothers you must administer the test chapter wide, and it must be anonymous. Another thing, which is likely broken in many Zetas, is separation. We can't do anything to our AMs that puts them beneath Actives (or puts the Actives above the AMs). So having the AMs do tasks like scavenger hunts and the like is a strict no-no. I have seen IHQ become a little more lax on what can and can't be done over the past few years. This is not to say that we are beginning to allow hazing, or look the other way! They are just opening their minds to some things that can be done that could be beneficial for a group of Associate Members that doesn't directly involve Active Brothers. At GA last summer in Orlando, Tim Reuter really harped on "Demanding not demeaning," and I think if every chapter takes that to heart, problems would decrease by a ton... None of us said there were tests. None of us accused you of anything.
Above all, we aren't the ones you had to convince of anything. You had to convince IHQ that your doings were legit, and you failed. |
