Looking for a Lambda Chi in A.A. (Alcoholics Anonymous)

This is a rather touchy subject, although not as touchy as it once was, but it appears that a brother from my chapter is seeking a sponsor in Alcoholics Anonymous, and apparently he prefers that it be another Lambda Chi.

I have met him several times, and it's no real secret that he's had a drinking problem for quite some time. Now he's trying to do something about it.

If anyone is engaged in such a program and is willing to help a brother who is trying to help himself, please PM me in confidence and I will pass on to him your contact info.

I would appreciate it if no one else asked me any questions pertaining to this particular situation, but if we can help him, then we should do so. Thanks.

In ZAX,
Jono

Several of my brothers from GZ went to AA, however, I don't know how helpful they can be out here in Massachusetts.

You're right...it is extremely touchy. As a member of a 12-Step program, only that individual has the right to make their membership known. That's why these programs are "anonymous".

Believe it or not, some people will drive miles out of the way to go to a meeting, even though they have one just down the block from their home. The need to keep others from knowing you're involved can be pretty strong. You'd better make sure the only correspondence on this issue appears in your PM box.

You sound angry. I know very well why they're called "anonymous". In this society (and especially the frat boy mentality), getting blotto drunk is a source of pride, whereas giving it up is a disgrace. Hundreds of people will crowd into a bar, but joining AA is as secret as our ritual.

The rest of your post only underscores what I already posted, so I'm mystified as to why you wrote it. "PM me in confidence" means I will keep it confidential.

I'm looking for ONE brother who can help this fellow, not admonishment for asking.

Well...

I myself went through this, so for me it isn't a touchy subject anymore. Yes, the second A stands for anonymous but I am very open with my past now.

I'm not sure how much help I could be from here in Texas, but hey... anyone with a problem can e-mail me and I'll do what I can.
