Oh Lord.

If this post (and poster) doesn't perpetuate a sterotype, I don't know what does.

Drolefille 11-30-2006 04:23 PM

I like the use of "All Y'all" though.

Oh, any Southerner knows that one. It's the plus-plural of you. :D

See us non southerners have -You,You Guys, and maybe "All of you guys"

(if you're saying "Youse Guys" you're either from New York or your family is very Very VERY Italian ;))

I like the - You,Y'all,All Y'all- too, but it's just not done around here!

Since almost all of us here at GC don't speak English, but rather U.S. American (a closely related but not identical language) and since American is loosely divided into recognizable regional usage, terminology, and accents, what is the problem? When I appear in court in the UK there is no secret that I hail from the deep South. I have been known to address a three judge panel in the High Court with words to the effect of "My Lords, would all y'all mind if we took an early lunch so I could take additional instructions from my client. Doesn't seem to bother them one bit.

Drolefille 11-30-2006 04:50 PM

It's not necessarily the southern language so much as the "Barbie Doll" at FSU.

The all y'all is fine by me but just adds to the stereotype :)

macallan25 11-30-2006 05:18 PM

That stereotype being......?

Regardless of how things are said in the south, as a non-southerner the whole sentence sounds as if it was written by someone who never passed high school english.

That AND the id were enough to make my stomach turn.
