prom dresses
So after making yet another round of lame attempts to clean my room so that I can finally get my new furniture, I found a bunch of my old dresses from prom and formals that I will never wear again. I know that there are some organizations that collect prom dresses to donate them to girls that are either sick or underprivileged so that they can have a beautiful dress for prom. Does anyone's organization here do that or does anyone know the name of the organizations that do?

Call the salvation army or Goodwill. That is where we donate clothes, shoes, even nice dresses. Some lucky girl will get a 10$ fancy dress!

This particular site is specific to a region but it does have links to similar charities. Apparently a lot of university Panhel Associations will run a program like this to help needy high school girls. Here's a related story. http://www.news.wisc.edu/13226.html |
goodwill
My sisters used to always go prom dress shopping at Goodwill. They could buy a nice dress for cheap and then modify it as they liked without making our mom mad. And if they don't go to a design student wanna-be then they will go to someone who actually can't afford a formal dress when they need one. Me and other guys are lucky, we just return our rented tuxes after the formals and don't take up "valuable" closet space. Happy cleaning!

Ever-After Gowns
Hey!
I just wanted to let you know about an organization called Ever-After Gowns, a non-profit organization dedicated to giving underprivileged young women the prom of their dreams. One of Upsilon Chapter's advisors was actually involved with creating the group and our chapter participates each year by doing a campus-wide dress drive to help out in gathering dresses for the "boutique." The actual boutique is set up in an area high school and then young women who would otherwise not be able to afford to go to prom are allowed to try on dresses, pick out accessories, etc. and keep all of these things for free, allowing them to have the prom of their dreams. Long story short, if anyone is dying to get rid of old formal dresses, PM me and I will give you the contact information because we would love to see Ever After Gowns grow! If you just want to check out the site, the address is: http://www.everaftergowns.org |
