St. Louis - Most dangerous city in America?

One study showed that St. Louis, MO is the most dangerous city in America. I found this interesting, since I live a few hours from there. I didn't remember anyone starting a thread about it. Discuss...

I just remember that I read that study during the World Series, and you notice who is second on that list?

Damn! Camden got knocked out. I wonder if I'll still get police escorts out from the summer concerts now...

eta: i spent many a fall planting trees in Camden, and did some work with a professor who studies browfield redevelopment. I'm glad to see that in some small way, Camden is getting better. There are huge plans for the city, and I do hope they come through.

Newton, MA got knocked down to #4 for safest cities. I can't imagine many more safer places than that, especially with it's proximity to Boston.

Detroit is second and Flint is third. I'm not surprised though because werent we like top 3 for the past 5 years?

#5 safest city is Troy, MI..that's suprising.

Camden is still a slum. The city is probably doctoring the crime stats like the way they doctored the education test scores.

My boyfriend's uncle lives there, and the only piece of advice he gave us when we were visiting was to be sure and not ride the train that stops in East St. Louis.

Of course Troy is safe, they have excellent public safety.

New Orleans isn't on any list.
Shreveport and Alexandria, LA are among the top 25 most dangerous metros.

I remember reading Savage Inequalities by J. Kozol and East St. Louis & St. Louis was one of the big cities he did his research on schools at - SO I'm not too surprised to see St. Louis on the list. The schools were all pretty rough & not as well funded as neighbors.

(...side note- I love Meet me in St. Louis great movie!...)

Is George Noory still on talk radio in St. Louis?

That could make any city dangerous.

I worked with George in Detroit TV.

He's actually a great guy.

Just a little "out there."

LOL...wasn't there a Chevy Chase movie where they drove thru East St. Louis? I think it was the one where they stopped to see the relatives in Kansas on their way to Wally World.

You're a little safer. I found out that George is hosting on all night network radio show on para-normal kinds of things out of LA.

I'm not too far from Detroit. About a 30 minute drive. Yup, it's bad. When I left Minnesota to come here, to me it was like  . Minnesota is one of the best states to raise a family in, according to the St. Paul press.

We lived in metro Detroit for five years, and I really enjoyed being there.

Like a lot of big cities, there are places I wouldn't go, but overall I didn't feel particularly threatened every minute.
