Major(ed) in Economics?

I'm an undergraduate student majoring in economics with hopes of conducting an independent research project this upcoming semester. So far I've decided to focus on the economic underdevelopment of blacks in the United States. (I plan to narrow down my topic in the near future, ideas are welcomed :) ) I'm writing to ask if any of you know of a particular organization or group that might benefit from research in this area. I hope that my research will prove beneficial not only to my academic endeavors but hopefully to others as well. Thanks in advance for any of your assistance.

Hi Success,

What does the term "economic underdevelopment" mean? I've never heard that term and although I went to a school that was heavy into Econ, we never got into that.

When I say underdevelopment I am trying to associate the concept of development that is most commonly applied to countries that are trying to assimilate into the global marketplace (e.g. Jamaica, India, and most Latin countries). I hope that answers your question.
