RIP Courtney Andreasgray

I haven't posted anything in a very long time, and I wish I was here to share good news. I know some of the sisters in this community knew and respected Courtney and wanted to share:

"Our dear friend Courtney AndreasGray has lost her battle with Leukemia. She succumbed to the disease in the early morning hours of November 17, 2006. A memorial service is planned for Wednesday, November 22nd at 2pm - Chapel of the Chimes Memorial Park and Mortuary on Mission Boulevard in Hayward. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, the Gray family has requested that monetary donations be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in Courtney's memory: http://leukemia-lymphoma.org/hm_lls

With loving memories of Courtney... may she rest in peace..."

For those of you who didn't know Courtney, she was an amazing woman who dedicated her life to Alpha Phi. All of us at SFSU loved and admired Courtney immensely. It was because of her that Eta Theta was able to remain at SFSU and thrive. She believed in our chapter when everyone else was ready to give up. We all owe her so much. She was recognized at the 2006 Convention for all of her accomplishments and we will all miss her so much!

From www.alphaphi.org:

Michaelanean Society Award
The Michaelanean award was first presented at the 1972 Centennial Convention. It is given each biennium to those who have shown outstanding loyalty and continuous devotion to Alpha Phi at the local level.

Courtney Andreasgray (Eta Delta-CSU/East Bay)
Courtney’s loyalty and dedication to Alpha Phi is most evident through her impact on the San Francisco State (Eta Theta) collegiate chapter as its adviser for nearly six years. She has helped the women double membership and promote a positive image of the chapter. Courtney has been the Pacific Northwest regional team’s resource in mentoring and assisting other chapter advisers. She was named Pacific Northwest Region Chapter Adviser of the Year in 2005.

I've been down in the dumps since I heard about this over the weekend. I wish I could be there to attend her memorial service.

Everything I ever learned about being an Alpha Phi, I learned from Courtney. She inspired me in ways I'll never be able to put in words. She was one of the first Alpha Phis to welcome me at my very first regional conference, and she inspired me to be the best chapter adviser I could be - tough and firm, but fair with a deep, abiding love for the chapters we advised.

If I could do anything in her memory (other than making a donation) it would be to strive every day to live up to Our Fraternity's ideals, and to the personal standards of excellence Courtney set for herself and for others.

AOE has never had a more poignant meaning for me as it does now.

I know many of the girls in my chapter are taking this really hard as well. Even though I didn't know her personally, I know that she impacted not only the Eta Theta chapter, but also mine as well (eta delta). I know many of my sisters are going to the memorial service.

I send out my condolenses to the Eta Theta chapter, and Courtney's family.

I was in Las Vegas when I got the news. After I received the phone call, I found the nearest ladies room and broke down. :(

I am beyond stunned. I first met her in 2003 when she came up to Vancouver. I had the best time with her, YogiPhi and Sistermadly at Whistler. We kept in contact throughout the years and she was beyond stoked when I told her I was moving to her area. We never got a chance to see each other due to time constraints and other things.

Today, take the time to let a sister know that you love them and are thinking about them. You never know if you will get that chance again.

Will there be a Foundation Scholarship for her????

aoe to my sisters

As tears roll down my cheeks while I type, I am uplifted and smile at the ouupouring of love and support everyone is giving...Sadly here in the Northwest, a week before Courtney's passing we lost a sister at Linfield College in an auto accident...

Courtney had a sassiness, lovely and heartfelt, but an adorable sass about her that was only equaled by her enormous heart for her sisters and Alpha Phi...She once told me that her doctor scheduled a chemo appointment...She got bothered and told him she couldn't make it because she had to be at rush that week at SFSU...THAT was Courtney!!!

Although not here, she is in a good place and is smiling down upon us reminding us to not look like hoochy girls or showing her lovingly frank and forward guidance as an adviser...I wish so much I could be in California for the services...It is pouring rain here in PDX - yucky windy and cold...I know it is sunny and warm there and where Courtney is - she's also being a big sis to Chelsea Peterson who passed away just a few days prior to Courtney...You go girls! May we all find peace in our hearts and replace the pain with fond memories...We love you!

AOE J.

I got back from her service a few hours ago and it was beautiful. The Alpha Phis in attendance sent her out with a serenade

We did right by our girl!

Once again I am smiling through the tears...what a fitting tribute! Thank you for sharing...YOU are an asset to Alpha Phi! What treat it is to have you as a sister and I know Courtney thought so too!
Again thanks.

Jo.

i was extremley shocked when I heard about this...I didn't even know she was sick.

I do know firsthand how hard she fought for the Eta Theta chapter, and I can't begin to think about my pledge period and my time in that chapter without thinking of her. She was always pushing us to uphold a high standard for ourselves and the chapters current success is a direct result of that. She also made herself completley available to us whenever we had an issue or a problem, and helped me personally many times.

I searched through my old A Phi pics and found one that Courtney is in (I've deleted a lot over the years). For those who didn't know her, she is standing on the very left side in the pic. I'm in there somewhere but its pretty embarassing. I think my hair is crimped and it was definatley not the 80's anymore.

WOWEEEE WOW WOW - That is a great pic of you all...How proud Courtney was of all of you...even in those challenging times. You ladies at SFSU are great! She loved you! Thanks so much for shairing the picture...

What a great picture! You can never forget that smile!

I'm saddend to hear of this. :( I met her a couple of years ago at SFSU's recruitment open house (I was there taking pictures for a book project and open house is open to the general public). The NPC advisor knew me (and Glitter650) but no one else so I introduced myself around. Ms. Andreasgray and I chatted for a bit. The feeling I got was that she was very well respected and admired by the way the chapter sisters spoke to her and that she loved her sorority. When I came back on bid day, she was there celebrating with the girls and everyone just seemed to love her. That told me a lot about her character.

My condolence's to her family, her chapter sisters and Alpha Phi.

The Executive Office sent out a lovely email about Courtney. It's so sad and such a loss for her family, friends, and sisters.
