Looking through the rubble...
As some of you may know, Umass' notorious "frat row" is no more. The 5 houses that once stood across from our very first chapter house have been demolished.
I have included a link to a local author/political activist/observer, Tom Devine, who I frequently read on a daily basis. Tom is in his 50's, a native of Springfield Mass., a Umass-Amherst alumni and now a current employee at Umass-Amherst. I enjoy a lot of his writings about local history, especially of the Amherst area. Well, today on his "blog" he posted an outsiders view of the once proud greek system at Umass. Tom would have been at Umass in the 70's, but I think the observations and opinions may very well apply to today's greeks. http://www.geocities.com/bstateob/journal.htm |
This is a sad state to say the least.:o
But S as you know the Eastern Schools because of land development have no hearts for us as Greeks.:o They lose sight of what We as Greeks do and can be for a school. |
I had read on the UMass-Amherst website that Lambda Chi had submitted a petition requesting to be brought back on campus. That was from a year or so ago. Any movement on this?

After volunteering my time to help with the house issue, and sending several letters and a petition of over 100 names of alumni volunteers ready to help recolonize Gamma Zeta, I have yet to receive anything more than a single generic "thank you for your interest" letter.
The petition was denied. Of course no one even bothered to contact me, a local alumni, who has political connections and personal favors due both in state government and at the campus. If someone would have let me know, it wouldn't have been denied. |
Wondering if there is any news update?
