Was it torture or were you able to enjoy it for what it's worth? :)

Elephant Walk 11-08-2006 12:48 AM

I read it in high school for fun, Marx intrigues me but flaws in theory don't. It's an interesting read and sometimes beautifully written (a spectre is haunting europe....) but that's about where it ends.

macallan25 11-08-2006 01:11 AM

I thought it was pretty interesting. I agree though...his theories were pretty out there. Doing away with inheritance is definitely not frat.

........although that was a very small part of the work as a whole.

Agreed.

There are flaws in every theory. Marxist conflict theory and theory of capitalism is criticized for a few things, including ignoring the roles or gender and race and predicting a worker revolt against capitalism that never quite happened. But that hasn't stopped Marxist conflict theory from being one of the main conflict theories discussed and his perspective on capitalism from still being used in class analysis, as well as Neo-Marxian and Marxist feminist theories. I know of a few theorists who are taking Marx to a whole new level and applying it to the 21st century. Kind of cool. :)

I think it's cool he got paid to write. He makes some good points, and some bad ones, just like everyone else.

macallan25 11-09-2006 02:39 PM

I didn't start this thread......what is going on here? Seriously.

Someone could sign on as you if they have your password. Better change it.

I've read some Lennon. When did Marx get replaced by McCartney?

Noone has my password........I think me and DSTCHAOS and ElephantWalk got on a discussion of Marx in the RM forum and someone transfered it here and made a new thread. I don'tknow why.

ShamikaT 11-10-2006 04:30 PM

I don't think that has ever happened here on GC. I dunno it sounds like your UN may have been jacked.

DSTCHAOS 11-10-2006 05:00 PM

Someone could've hijacked his UN, not a thread.

No, the first 5 posts of this thread came from another thread.

Goodness......no one stole my username or jacked my password. The first 5posts of this thread were at the very end of the Johns Hopkins Halloween Party thread in the RM forum....the thread is now closed......and those last 5 posts were transfered into this forum and posted as a new thread.
