Chi Omega pins on E-bay
 

Hi Chi Omegas!

Just wanted to let y'all know that there are currently 5 Chi O badges up for sale on e-bay. At least one dates to 1924, I believe. I know that Delta Zeta is very serious about buying back any badges that we find in non-DZ hands, so I thought Chi Omega might be the same way. I hope this helps you to recover some special pins.

Does anyone know for a fact what National's policy is about this? I'll ask our Chapter Visitor (cuz she's here right now), but I didn't know if this was something we should look into or not?

I bought one off of ebay and sent it to Jan Blackwell (head of archives for XO) - she did not really say anything that it was wrong- she just commented on how they are cheaper to buy from Chi O Creations. I think she thought Chi O's were buying them but I suspect other people buy them too.
I try to buy them but once they get over $60.00 - I'd go broke! Let me know what you hear from the chapter visitor.

I talked to the chapter visitor today and she told me Chi Omega does not have a fund set up to repurchase the pins on Ebay. She said of course, they will willingly accept them from those who have purchased them!
Guess that's all we can do for now.

I think it sucks too. Months ago I checked with my nationals to see if something could be done about the ebay shananigans. They said that our attorneys from nationals would look into it but there probably wouldnt be anything you could do. I always thought something could be done like a class action copyright law suit with all of us suing ebay. But I dont see that happening.

Same thing happened to me. My badge was stolen when I was an active and it wasnt cool. At least its not in the hands of that sigma chi whos selling all of those badges online.

We just had a big E-bay fiasco this weekend. A Delta Zeta badge was up for sale, and it had the owner's name engraved on the back, as well as her initiation date (1944). We did a little research, found out that the DZ sister was still living, and that her badge had been stolen during a house burglary 43 years ago!! We contacted e-bay about it, but they wouldn't stop the auction without a police report. The police couldn't find the original report because it happened so long ago and the statue of limitations had expired. So, we tried to contact the seller to inform HIM that he was selling stolen property and that the owner wanted it back. He ignored our requests to return the badge, so one of our sisters kept bidding until she won the auction. What pisses me off is that some jerk would rather make a quick buck than do the right thing and return stolen propery to its rightful owner!! At least the story has a happy ending, though. The badge will be sent back to the sister after 43 years!

I'm so glad that sister is getting her badge back!

I think that is sick that in college, people are stealing badges. I hope to God it is not within the sorority.

Yep, I think hes got like every fraternitys badge. I saw a handful of my badges. One from the 1850s.

No, he's not selling those badges (the Sigma Chi y'all are referring to). He collects them. I don't think he'd sell them for anything!

He has a few turn-of-the-century Kappa keys that I've tried to buy off of him . .. and he's not having any of it!

I don't like that he has these pins any more than the next person . . . but at least those pins didn't get melted down for scrap metal and jewels, which is often what happens to them!

We all know about that guy who has a website with his "collection" of Greek badges, right? Now this is far fetched.. but maybe he doesn't really have all those badges. Maybe they are just pictures that he got off the internet or something. It seems kinda crazy that someone would do something like that just to make Greeks mad, but we all know what lengths some people are willing to go to. It just makes me sick every time I see any badge on eBay. And even more so when I see people selling their own, or their deceased family member's badge. It is really sad!

Sadly, he does. I know this to be true, because he frequents several of the same antique shows that I do to find badges. (I, however, only look for KKG badges and Theta Chi badges (my finace's fraternity).) I've seen some of his pins in person, and let me tell you--he is the real thing.

I have to say, in his defense, he is a really nice person, and treats the pins with the utmost of respect. He doesn't run around wearing them or anything (maybe the Sig badges, I don't know.)

But make no mistake--that collection that you see on the net is for real.

Be sure to check out the PinFest pages too, for some really old badges (everytime I see the KKG badges on those pinfest pages, I salivate . . . what I wouldn't do to buy them from him!!!)

IMSOH,

The point is that he has them. Whether or not he is collecting them or selling them. He still has them and thats highway robbery. In my opinion he should make every effort to make sure that each respective greek organization gets their badges back. For my Fraternity I would rather see him melt them down than for him to collect them for his purposes. He is NOT a member of my Fraternity. Ebay is another story altogether. Just my opinion.
