Burning Sands ~ Movie in 2007

I was perusing a site and saw that this movie is set to start filming in November.

Plot summary: The true story of five friends forced to ban together as they embark on the treacherous task of pledging a historically black fraternity. The friends wonder if they will fulfill their destiny and become members or fold and succumb to the relentless thrashing of the fraternity brothers. Are the rewards enough to validate enduring the torture of this hellish process?

Indubitably.

I can't see the pics...

Is this being filmed for the big screen or is this YET ANOTHER underground (no pun intended), straight-to-video cinematic work about pledging?

We get it.... We got it with School Daze. Let.it.go.

Sounds like this one might go on the big screen.

I don't know what to think....this is going to be quite interesting

Interesting indeed. It would be very interesting if the ending shows some complications such as three of the five crossing or the brotherhood really being built because one of the friends needed the support of the other four because of an illness or family issues. There has to be a spin besides different types of hazing. I don't want to see a neat, tied with a pretty bow ending where all five join the fraternity.

Is there anything that new that could be done? I already saw Dwayne Wayne drop from pleding Kappa Lambda Nu, but Ron went on without him. They were still friends. So, that's not so new after all.

I predict straight to video. (Not DVD, just video. J/K)

Gaining Speed

I feel like everything is cyclic...and for various reasons im sure (the unfortunate tragedies of recent, new state and national legislation regarding hazing, the bad little soccer/lacrosse girls hazing video that circled the airwaves, the growing threat of litigation, the centennial and upcoming centenials of many of our organizations) hazing, and definitely the interest in black sorority and fraternities part in "hazing", has become an interest of many on the outside. It was only a matter of time that this issue finally hit the big screen again (almost 20 years after School Daze)

I too am curious to see how it plays out...

Im not going to lie though..the straight to DVD movies look pretty hilarious... Big Walts recent feature flick of AAK looks absurd from the trailer..however i could never give him any of my money..so ill never know how funny the movie actually is LOL

Sounds sucky.

Another pledging movie...

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but there's another movie called Stomp the Yard that is due in 2007. It's definitely interesting because pledging has been engrained in the African American college experience, but yet, still have mysteries that ER'YBODY and they momma wants to know about...so it will always be of interest to audiences.

Check the trailer out...this one looks like a supped (sp?) up "Drumline", but it looks interesting!

Stomp The Yard.

I know personally the writer slash director.
DK...this movie will suck and go straight to video ...if it even makes it off the page.
The script is weak and if you look on IMDB...it has been up there for years....
No roles next to cast names.
this DK is a Kappa and is not doing anything different than trying to use his life story as a get rich quick scheme.
nothing important will be said just marketing and schemes to get our money.
writer is just hoping to get rich off our being led like a lamb to see his films.
That is the sad part about the film industry the art is gone and now it is all business
I think there is a lot to be said about fraternity life, but yes it has been said over and over
Straight to video...

What would be a great movie would be a story of Several successful and some not so successful people whom have "flashbacks" and when invited to a special Reunion they relive their Frat/Soror/SF(social Fellowship) Daze in College. Like the one brother whom is now a VP at Exxon whom married a particular sweetheart because she took him one night after the Bruhs were looking for him because he showed up to set minus chicken wings and beer..lol. Or the Sister whom because she was the captain fo her Ship whom is now the Exec at a major PR firm because she had to be the one whom had to be the one to go into the cafe while a pledgee and state loudly "What XYZ" accomplished this week in history...she was the shy girl at first and from that experience she learned to speak up. Another is the down on his luck Guy who inspired by all of the accomplishment of his LB's and Shipmates is inspired to finish college as his experience in pledge life was tainted with heavy drug usage and partying and living in the moment instead of hitting the books and the woman whom used to be his "personal sweetheart" and used to LOOOOOOOVE HIM Deeply is now married with children and living a "full spiritual life" with the one dude he was hardest on when he pledged the Org. back in the day because that dude didn't fit the stereotypical profile of the Organization. Lastly the one guy's head is so far up in clouds he has basically forgotten his roots and was so "ashamed" of his HBCU background and Frat that he Pledged so much for back in the day that instead of supporting the HBCU he graduated from and his Historically Black Org. he in turn supports heavily the white GRAD school he graduated from and the white Honor society he belongs to and will talk heavily about that school like he went there all 6 years and never even mention the HBCU. He in turns get's a wake-up call when one of the Chairmen of the board of his company he works for whom is white and also a member of his Organization basically puts him in check.

The movie could be entitled "Homecoming"
