Spanish TV, Telenovelas, etc...
Not wanting to hijack the "Betty" thread...
Who else loves Telenovelas?? They were interesting before I learned Spanish, but now that I understand what's going on, I love them!! My favorite so far is "Inocente de Ti", followed closely by "Mujer de Madera". I think I like them, because most of them are just so cheesy, and don't try and hide it. American TV is cheesy, but they try to act like it's not...the Spanish proudly show their queso... Also, their news programs do a lot more human-interest type pieces, and are less liberal in general then most American news shows. |
do you remember "dos mujeres, un camino" my grandma and aunts used to watch that faithfully when i was younger! the last one i really got into and have not since was, "pequena traviesa". i event went out and bought the cd to that song!

Me, my best friend, and my baby sister watched EL CLON twice! It was so good, if there was a DVD with it on there we'd so buy it!

Isn't that the one that Erik Estrada = Ponch from "CHIPs" = was on? He had to learn to say his lines phonetically if I recall. |
Telenovelas are awesome! I'm looking for a DVD of "Amor Real". I can probably find it on Amazon. I love them because they're so over-the-top. My Spanish needs some improvement, but the telenovelas are still fun to watch.

Ok, i'm not as obsessed with novelas as i used to be when I was little. But my favorites would have to be Maria Belen and Sonadoras. My family always said that I looked like the character "Lucia" from Sonadoras...which I tend to agree with! lol. I've watched others when I was little, with my grandma....but I can't remember their names, and once she passed away, i stopped watching them. |

In Spanish (mainly Venezuelan slang), long-winded telenovelas are called 'culebrones' (literally 'big snakes'), because many people get all wrapped up in them. Next to oil, Venezuela's second biggest export is telenovelas. I haven't kept up much with Spanish TV, but there used to be a tall, blond haired actress who played in many Venezuelan telenovelas. What's even more interesting is that she speaks flawless English as well as Spanish. After all, Sonya Smith was born in Philadelphia... :D |

I thought I was the only dork ;) that actually liked this novela so much, I watched it twice! :D My favorites that I would LOVE to see on DVD when they come out are Corazon Salvaje (the most recent version), Alondra b/c I do like Ana Colchero, Muchachitas(I like teen angst), Tu O Nadie (from my childhood), Rosa Salvaje (another holdover from my childhood), and La Duena. I know there are more but these are the ones I remember the most & enjoyed & can still remember after all this time. Others I wouldn't mind are Marimar (I hate Thalia but enjoyed this novela), Los Parientes Pobres, Lazos de Amor, and if anyone remembers the very first telenovela ever though I can't remember the dang name. It had Veronica Castro in it. |

Really? I didnt' know that. She's pretty awesome though. |
Haha, Alpha, do you watch King of the Hill? Peggy's always watching a show about some priest that always says "vaya con Dios" before killing someone. I likes T3H LATINAS.

OMG!!!! In Nigeria, they showed them telenovelas ALL the time, and of course they were dubbed over in english, but you couldn't tell us nothing!!! we huddled around the tv on Saturday & Sunday to watch them joints... we never knew what the title of the sopas were since we didn't know spanish, so we always called them by the lead star's name eg Maria dela Rosa on Saturdays and Cuando ses Mias on Sundays... I usedta love them male stars... ohhh weee....

I've seen a couple at random times. I prefer Italian soaps when I go to my aunt's house.
